For Those Of You With Metal Roof Houses--pic
Comments (13)Do you get much snow? We're in our first winter with our standing seam metal roof, and we're glad we discussed at length with our architect just where the snow will go when it slides off. It will slide off and if you don't remove it quickly, it will accumulate. Look at blindstar's back door. yikes! (sorry, no offense, blindstar). Our roof doesn't "match" in color any other elements of the house except for gutters and downspouts which were made from the same material. It's sort of a neutral grayish green that can be paired with many different colors. If your summers are hot think about lighter colors and research 'cool roofs' on the internet (coolroofs.org). We wanted a galvanized-look roof until we learned that many painted metals would actually keep the house cooler in summer. I like to see shutters, trim, and garage door all the same color....See MoreAnother request for front door color advice
Comments (10)I don't get the dark brown/black roof relationship. I'd consider painting all the dark trim a creamy off-white that harmonizes with the siding. Shutters Black Bean from Sherwin Williams. Front door could be anything in the warmer reds: a straight up warm red, a red-orange, orange, rust, terracotta - I'd defer to the slate for what direction to take for the door. Just make sure the paint store directs you to red hue family colors that are suitable to use outside. Nothing more disappointing than finding the perfect front door red and learning that it's interior only....See MoreCedar Roof --- replace or restore
Comments (23)The problem in the bedroom has been from Day 1; there's very little air coming out of the two registers. And yes, insulation may be an issue because the room is kind of extending, i..e three outside walls. I've been getting estimates for roof replacement, and they are all over the place, using Certainteed Landmark TL or Pro roof shingles. Do I want a roof ventilation system (on the ridge)?...See MoreHas anyone built Cedar River Farmhouse from Southern Living?
Comments (209)People can share THEIR finished $/sqft. but in reality it means little. Prices from even six months ago are outdated, prices are heavily locale dependant and if a house can be built for say $400/sf the same house can be built for $200/sf but with different flooring, cabinets, siding, trim, windows......etc. Basically a stripped down version of a more expensive version....See MorePPF.
