Sticky oily orchid leaves

Ally Krigger

Hi,

I was just outside looking at my orchids that are under a mango and Crape Myrtle trees and I noticed the leaves are covered with a sticky substance that looks oily. I took one of the orchids and washed the leaves off with soap and water and lots of black stuff came off. I noticed it is on the Crape Myrtle branches as well. I'm thinking it is the start of sooty mold, I may be wrong. Any help and treatment would be appreciated. I'm unable to post pics of the affected orchids. Thanks!
