Simonton 6100 vs Window World 4000 series?

Looking to replace 8 windows, the simonton will be from home depot, and the window world windows are made by alside from what I have read, any experience with these windows? We currently have old alumnium windows single pane. At this point anything would be an improvement. I also am consdering the okna 500.

You never want to make any kind of investment simply because " anything is better than what you currently have". Thats not very logical.

The Okna is a much better window than both brands, especially window world.

look at the Okna 500 or even the Okna 600 depending on where you live.

Thank you. The reason why I say this is because of its as if we don't have windows. Cold drafts, you can hear the slightest noise. I realize windows are a huge investment which is why i am trying to do my due diligence. However as someone who is not familiar with the windows market, and frankly not handy at all its been a bit daunting.

In regards to the 500 series, why is it a much better window? Are there any other manufacturers you would recommend one to look up and find installers for?

There is a local company by the name of tri state window factory are you familiar with their offering at all?

Hi Truth75, My two cents! We recently purchased windows and did lots of research. You should really do your own research and take what you read from forums very lightly. Many of the people commenting on forums are employees of companies (competitors) and will never have anything of value to offer except to create fear. Use the resources available to you, if you have checked Angies List and such, you will get more honest answers from places like that. Not to mention, the company you speak of is America's largest window replacement company. It did not get there by accident. It installs more windows each year than home depot and lowes combined...so who do you think is more qaulified? Point is, don't be misled by companies bashing other companies....we saw through the baloney and just did our own research by making decisions on facts rather than fake posts! Let me first say, the Andersen 100 is not a terrible product at all. It is a fine choice, particularly if you really like the appearance. That being said, it has no advantages over a premium vinyl product, especially because as mentioned above, it is primarily made up of vinyl. You can get dark exterior colors on a vinyl product just like you can on the Andersen, and while the exterior finish warranty will be the same at 10yrs, the rest of the window will continue to be warrantied on the vinyl option. The 10yr warranty on the fibrex material is a very lackluster warranty, and is extremely telling as to how well that material will hold up IMHO. It just strikes me as ironic that someone would be very concerned about the coated exterior on a vinyl windows which is warrantied for 10 yrs (20 yrs in some cases), yet have no qualms about a product where the unit itself is only warrantied for 10 years!? I'm not trying to be argumentative here, just injecting some facts and a little bit of common sense into this thread. :)

I just received 8 large 100series Andersen windows to be installed in my sunroom. My builder found one cracked and said the others were cheaply made and he didn’t feel right putting them in as cheaply made as they are. So....... we are sending them back and now I have to wait another 12 weeks or more for another set of windows to be made somewhere else. They DEFINITELY won’t be Andersen windows. Very disappointing!

Miter Brands owns Sunrise, Milgard and MI to my understanding. The Sunrise name is no longer used and has been rebranded under MI in the v4000 and V5000 series. Window World is just an installation company, like me they buy wholesale from whoever they want and do not produce anything. Far as I know the V series and Milgard are still built at thebsame plants on the same extrusions as before and are superior products to Mi. Good or bad this is the nature of the business and will likely be the fate of many more when owners of these smaller companies die or sell out. Kind of like the auto boom ,there were a staggering amount of US auto manufactures and now we got 2.

Per you question on what makes Window X better than Window Y, it is usually a combination of thermal performance (U-Factor), strength/design pressure (DP or PG), and air tightness (i.e. Air Infiltration rating).
