What size wall mirror for dining room?
Comments (3)I like dining room mirrors, they can reflect your chandelier (do you have one) and centerpiece and lovely place settings and attractive food and beautiful guests. I don't mind if there is nothing under the mirror. You just want the mirror to be in proportion to the rest of the things in the room. You might have landed a marvelous and huge mirror at an estate sale, but if your dining room set is rather petite and everything is off kilter, well that is not so great. Before you start making holes in the wall, do you have some friends (of the big strong variety) that can hold up the mirror while you take some photos and then you can decide if you want to put it there? omg, what a dunce am I?? Welcome to the modern era loobab!! Why not try one of those photo editing programs and photoshop in a mirror of that size? I think that with certain stores or even Houzz you can upload a photo of your room and find a photo of a mirror they want to sell you that is the same size of the one you are considering and see what you think. And show us too. That works a heck of a lot better than my old graph paper solution or dragooning some strong male friends and baking some brownies :)...See MoreWall decor for large dining room wall- what should go here?
Comments (15)No one looks at themselves in a mirror while eating, so if that's what you would like to hang there, by all means DO. A mirror is a classic dining room element that expands the space, reflects chandelier light and candle glow, as well as the people gathered around the table together. It's a lovely addition. Should you choose artwork instead, don't feel you must match your choice to artwork in another room. Art is much more interesting when you collect pieces that speak to you in some way; that have special meaning to you and say something about who you are as a person. Anything else and you might as well be in a dentist's waiting room. It's your home ... let it reflect who you are....See MoreAm I crazy to put dining room table against one side of the room?
Comments (12)Have you considered putting the table against the window the long way (see sketch in blue). There would be 40" of walk space if the hearth is 18" into the room. An indoor/outdoor is a great option that will anchor the table, add color as well as be the base for the room. I would also install either a long rod with stationary window panels on either side or short rods on either side of the window. The short rods would also have stationary panels. This will visually complete the windows. I would put an accent chair in the corner on the fireplace wall by the entry with an art piece above. A built-in bookshelf cabinet could be installed to the right of the firelace. Add a focal piece above the fireplace and you're all set!...See MoreReplacing wall to wall mirror in dining area
Comments (17)I had my contractor come and he thinks that it will be better to just out up new drywall given the labor intensive work of taking off the glue and fixing the wall. RMC - I did let neighbors know what happened but no one seemed too concerned. These homes were built 20 years ago and a few people had the builder do the mirrors but the general consensus was that what happened to me was just a freak accident. Hope they are right. Calidesign- not quite sure what you’re suggesting. Do you mean just put up drywall and hide the columns completely? Not sure a mural would work because everything seems to be very traditional which is just not the style of my house. There are a couple of artists whose work I’ve found online that I think would work well on this wall. I can’t figure out how to post the art here, but their names are Margaret Juul and Grace Popp....See Morercarterworld
