Baldwin or Schlage levers?
Comments (8)I bought nearly everything through a local kitchen/bath showroom. they gave me contractor pricing so every last knob, hinge and lever came from there. I was seriously considering the brushed nickel, but was advised for my style home and age that ORB was the better choice. I tend to agree. You see brushed nickel very often now in the newer homes, even though they are basically a traditional style. I think you can go either way. Once they all match (and be prepared to plane some doors and fix chipped paint) and the doors are in good shape you'll love the look. I do have bathrooms with other finishes like polished nickel and brushed nickel, so having the bronze light fixtures should be fine. There's a lot of mixing and matching going on these days, best if there's a rhyme or reason to it. I put privacy levers on most bathrooms, the master bedroom, but not the kids' bedrooms. I also put dummy levers on the closet doors which needed them. We have a tax-free weekend in my state so I was able to plan ahead and place the order for the motherload during the tax free weekend....See MoreDeal Hinges on Appraisal But There Are No Good Comps
Comments (44)Thanks guys! Lirodendron, yes, we're supposed to close THIS Friday! Then we're going up to Jersey on Tuesday and will close on the next one on Wednesday. My buyers are letting me stay in here for two weeks after closing but with all the trips back and forth, it's really not a lot of time. We're moving ourselves to save money. In the beginning we were going to get movers but every time I lost a buyer and we put it back on the market, we put it back on for less money and so now I'm coming out with less. Therefore we're doing all the moving ourselves. As far as the hay, we're going to take one load in the horse trailer, close to 100 bales, and the buyer will buy whatever is left over. She lucks out. I'm selling it to her for the same price I paid but she doesn't have to get it and stack it! It's not the winery house. When we lost one of our buyers (I can't even remember now which one because this has happened so much), the seller of the winery house wouldn't give us a house selling contingency even with a kick-out clause. After we found another buyer, we went up there again to look at it and look at some others while we were at it. It looked horrible after going through the winter and we were so relieved she didn't lock us in! We felt like we were given a second chance! We found a better place, more suitable for the horses, with more acres and nice pasture. It's an old house too. Not grand like the winery house but I'll fix it and make it really cool. Thanks for asking! Check out my blog again for a real interesting update about this stress I'm under and the message I got. Comments (12)The difference is sometimes made-to-order vs. not. Other times it is the volume of the production as a whole, so while they may have 212 in stock at Lighting Universe, they may only make several thousand vs. 100,000. Sometimes its quality of the castings or components or finish. This is not lighting, but Weslock (~$10) vs. Schlage ($25) vs Emtek ($60) vs Baldwin ($80+) oil rubbed bronze egg knobs may all look very much the same in pictures but the finish and the "hand" of the knob are quite different in person...now why you can then go up to $300+ for an oil rubbed bronze knob I am not so sure. Any fixture you are likely to buy is going to be UL listed and "safe" but the cheaper fixture may have some plastic components or some thin, stamped metal components while a more expensive one has cast pieces. Either one could be fine...just evaluate how likely you are to get the mileage out of each piece..do you like to change things out on occasion? Are you hard on things? Do you scrub and wash things a lot? (this could affect a cheap finish)....See MoreInterior Door Handles - Baldwin or Emtek - Best Prices Where?
Comments (15)If anyone is interested these are the best prices that I found online for both handles so far. Emtek - http://decorglamour.com/ - $70.77 - Passage lock - was quoted locally $80.00 Baldwin - http://www.build.com/ - $54.25 - Passage Lock - was quoted locally $75.00 I'm looking at a total of 13 door handles(6 passage - 5 privacy and 2 full dummy) so buying online can save me quite a bit of money over buying locally. I haven't checked yet if the local place would price match, but guessing they wouldn't come down that low especially for the Baldwin lock. If anyone knows of a better price, let me know....See Moretraciel
