Can we talk about Whirlwind?
Comments (20)McT, I'm SOOO glad you responded. This is great information! You had some comments on Whirlwind on an old thread and I knew you would have some valuable insight! Ken, I live at 44.7 And yes, I do agree that gardening in the US is completely different than the UK, but I am interested in their gardening insights. Eventhough their climate and and sun angles are completely different than anything we have here, I believe their insights are worth drawing from. I don't think I'd want to cut out the 3rd act, but since I love Whirlwind's variegation, perhaps I can limit the 3rd act to a shorter part of the growing season! Since I'm looking at creating a grouping of 4 or more plants, moving the entire family is not quite as easily as relocating just a single Whirlwind. So, I don't want to have to move them all again next year if I do not like Whirlwind's performance. I guess I'm just looking to make an educated decision about where to best maximize Whirlwind and her progeny....See MoreCan we talk about goats?
Comments (32)We used to have two full size nubian goats on about an acre. We also got them as 'lawnmowers' but two goats were not enough by the way. Ours were nuetered males which I would recommend. Very friendly and fun. Our husky grew up with them and they all played well together. Make sure you have a high fence or an electric fence. We opted for electric. Worked great! Another thing to consider is having them dehorned. Our fence had six inch gaps between the wires. If they had had horns, they might've gotten stuck. Also, if you have trees, they will will strip the bark right off of them. But enjoy them, they are really fun....See MoreWe've talked about products we love. What about...
Comments (25)I like Burt's Bees shampoo & conditioner, especially the new one "Super Shiny" because it tames my dry hair. However, there was a BB's product I tried years ago that was so awful it actually caused me pain. I'm referring to the Theraputic Bath Crystals. When I put it in the bath water my skin felt like it was been burnt alive. I couldn't jump out of the water fast enough. I've read reviews where others have had the same reaction but most people don't seem to experience a problem so I guess it depends on how sensitive your skin it. Mikasa...years ago I bought a couple of their white soup bowls open stock and loved how durable they were. So was I surprised a few years later to see how much the quality had changed when I bought an extra one. Utensils left ugly marks on the bowl that didn't wash out, even a spoon was removing the finish. I thought surely this is a fluke so I got another one and the same thing happened. Don't know what Mikasa changed but that product has gone downhill since I first bought it....See MoreCan we talk about built ins?
Comments (12)If it was my house I would begin by dropping a soffit and wall from the ceiling to create a "niche" on either side of the fireplace, and create the opportunity for a true "built-in" cabinet of one design or another Finally, even though the space to the right of the fireplace is much smaller than the one to the left, I would definitely place something there so that the space doesn't appear to simply be overlooked or forgotten Yes, these two statements definitely help -- thanks. I looked at a bunch more pictures, and I understand what you're saying about making this area look actually "built in" ... and while not so many people seem to do this, I do like it better. Bpath, I appreciate the pictures, but after staring at them for a bit, I think that's too much stone for me; I think we're not seeing eye to eye on the idea of stone as an accent vs. a major player. Oddly enough, though I'd usually say, "Contemporary? That's nice in other people's houses, but I wouldn't want to look at it every day" ... but I do like that picture. The pictures you have posted show a symmetrical fireplace elevation centered under a symmetrical vaulted ceiling. But the floor plan shows an asymmetrical layout, asymmetrical fireplace elevation, and something that suggests high windows set into a shed dormer-- It's hard to tell. Yeah, I noticed that, but few online images are asymmetrical! I like examples, but they seem to be few and far between. i would make the built ins in the gr and kitchen match however i do have "mismatched" cabinetry in the bathrooms the the sinks are placed in cabinets are stained and the other cabinetry is white The difference, of course, is that you can't see the bathrooms at the same time -- but you can see the kitchen and great room at the same time. Thanks for your continued thoughts, all....See MoreNaf_Naf
