judithn: You've really peeked our curiosity! It would really help to see this scrumptous rug you describe. From your description, it seems that you would like to rug to be your focal point of the room and the furniture should be a backdrop to that. Trends come and trends go, but ultimately you are the ones that live in your home and should choose what makes you comfortable and enjoy. I've noticed when I post a question on this board, I am hoping for a clear majority (and sometimes there is one), but more often I get two different opinions which seems to be happening here as well. That tells me that either option is fine and you need to cast the deciding vote!

The chair fabric is from Huntington House... and I love it too and feel comfortable with this, but with the difficulty I am having finding a sofa fabric... I am doubting my selection! First, the fireplace width is only 66" (should have been 76-78")I need to play around with this area more, but as I see it now - it will look odd because it will end up tall and narrow. (does that make sense?) but the pre-fab ones will not work at this point, because all the legs are too short. As far as lighting - I have only purchased the bathrooms so far - so that is open to change, but I definitely want a warm, light bronze color or a silver bronze color. I am in Florida now, and I have seen both warmer tones as well as darker - and like both. Living with one or the other.. hard to say! Previous homes, I have had brown/beige and it was okay, favorite sofa I had was a solid chenille green, light the green in the chair fabric. I did love that room - it felt cozy. In the 80's I had my first new sofa - MAUVE - oh yuck, I hated it after just a few months! I don't "have" to purchase the furniture now, but since I already invested so much time, and I do need furniture to sit on (if I don't buy - room will be totally empty as the old is already gone). It takes 12 weeks ++ I really want to finish this! I am still deciding what I want to do. Mulling maybe is a better word. Sallymo, I had a painter out for my foyer yesterday. He is coming back with my estimate today and the foyer will be painted withing the next month regardless of who paints it. I may decide to go that way while I have a painter here. I am sort of focused on my finals until Friday and I may run after and see what I can find. I thought perhaps some pictures matted in cream (black and whites or sepia) of my children and family would bring a good feel to the room and the cream mattings would brighten things up a little if I went that route. I am also am looking at pillow covers on Etsy in patterns to cover my pillows. I thought I could still use the same forms and sizes and find a brown linen, a blue linen and then I really like the pottery barn ones. They should fit my current smaller pillows. I am sort of getting a vision. I want new lamps and I just need to find them!

I'm not far from the border here, and the US post office is not far from the border. I will check out getting a box there if it's possible for Canadians to rent one. I do have a son in the US, but just didn't want to bother them to have to re-send it on. I suppose they could as a gift though. It's not that I'm anxious to save a lot of dollars, it's just that they have some really nice looking fabrics, and the price is unreal $6.00 a yard vs $15.00 a meter here. Connecting threads states that they truck to the border and put into the hands of Canada Post, but there is a brokerage involved which is what worries me. It seems they can charge whatever suits them on any particular day. Maybe I'll have to take a nice drive one day for lunch and Quilt fabric shopping in my favourite town in Washington, Lynden.
