Laugh -out-loud funny read.......

I am an admitted fan of Bill Bryson at his best.....and The Life And Times Of The Thunderbolt Kid is a gem.

If you grew up in the 1950's you will find so much to laugh out loud about !

A great, happy , enjoyable book for sure .
If you are looking for something to brighten your day, this has to be in the top five choices !

I'll second that! I loved this book and it had a joyfulness and playfulness to it that seems to be lacking in his most recent books (IMHO). Highly recommended!

I've read all his earlier books and found them to be hilarious.

But this one is about a kid's point of view which makes it funnier in a different way !

My plants just survived our first hard freeze up here in Iowa City (by "hard", I mean -8C with ice) and still look nice, so I'm pretty happy. My siphon watering system froze up, though. Darn. Oh well! Looks like it can handle lesser freezes, but not -8C freezes that coat all of the aboveground hoses in ice. I couldn't even turn on the wall spigot without using a kettle of boiling water.

That wasn't it, but much closer! At any rate, you helped me with my search (google to the rescue!). I did FINALLY find the link that I'd posted to "hilarious review", and guess what----that site no longer exists! Aaargh. I have one recourse--it was so funny that I recall doing a copy-and-paste of it (at least I think I did--and not another link) to email to 2 friends who had no idea what a washlet was. Now to fire up the old computer and see if I can find it....assuming it still works--was in bad shape before getting a new one, and we've moved since (I might not have taken great care with it).

Wait, CoolMama, are you pregant? I am reading the Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy, and I am so happy that I am because it has shed much light on things that other books haven't. Now, have you read the "Belly Laughs" and "Baby Laughs"? I head that those are pretty funny too.... I just got a copy at my baby shower but still haven't read them.

I'll second, or third, the above comments. I particularly enjoyed 'Notes from a Small Island' where he takes the p*** out of the foibles of us slightly mad English people.

A Walk In The Woods is a great one also.......and the movie version of it was unforgiveably hideous. There should have been someone who nipped that in the bud. The casting was awful and they destroyed the story.

Neither Here Nor There was the first of his books which I read and was introduced to his crazy friend Katz. It completely sold me on Bill Bryson from that point on !
