URGENT: Tile floor going in, baseboard issues ...
Comments (12)Hi, astridh! Nice to hear from you again. Did you find your vanity marble? I'm pretty sure we're going with the surface bullnose tile. It's DH's favorite choice, and I like it, too. They've covered a lot of the floor with tile now, so we can see the pattern and the effect, and honestly, there's no way you could call this 30-foot-long space "bathroomy". It's more of an indoor/outdoor room with the sunroom on the deck end, which is why we think the tile base will work fine over there. Ci_lantro: Thanks so much for responding. It would be difficult, I think, to mix the two bases because the entry wall is continuous with the sunroom walls--no good place to stop one base and start the other. lyfia--When we showed our builder why we didn't like the wood trim pieces we were given--too thick and too tall--he explained that he could "rip" them down to whatever size and thickness we wanted. It came down to the fact that DH just likes the tile base better. And as I said in my earlier post, I like having just two materials at floor level, rather than three, especially since the cherry wood toe-kick base is a different grain and far more intense in color than the stained pine window and door jambs....See MoreBaseboards transition down the stairs
Comments (10)No. Just... No. I did all the finish work on my own stairs, so I researched this piece a lot: how to transition baseboard from a landing to another run of stairs. I'll try to paste a photo from Houzz from my Stairs ideabook that shows what it should look like. The skirt on the stairs should continue up and meet the base on the landing. Here is a different way of trimming the same situation: Personally I prefer the top option, and that's what I did in my own house. It should not look like what you showed - you are correct about that! Good luck with resolution....See MoreTransition strip for sliding doors? Baseboard problem. Pics included.
Comments (11)You may be able to rent a floor cutting tool, or even have someone that has one come and cut, that small area in front of the doors that you have. I do know people that have used a dremel, and have done a good job, but, you have to know exactly how to use that dremel, and it takes a special blade, and they are not cheap. By the time you buy the blade, and go through all the hassle of trying to cut it, the guy with the right tool, could have been there, finished it and be gone. Only you can decide just what you want to do. As for the boards you are tryng to use for baseboard, no, just save them, in case, you ever need to put up new casings somewhere. Buy the baseboards and put them down, so things look right. Your floors are pretty. Take the time, to put up proper baseboards to frame them....See MoreHow should we transition the baseboards, and stairs here?
Comments (10)I've seen a number of articles in Family Handyman Magazine on how to handle baseboards across changes of floor levels. There's more than one way you could approach this. Sorry I don't have a direct link to show, but Google Family Handyman baseboards and you should find some helpful articles online....See MoreCinar Interiors, Inc.
