Andersen 100 vs Windsor Pinnacle vs other suggestions!

I need to replace 60 fixed windows in my commercial building located in the southeast. My window contractor suggested Andersen 100s. I did not care for the look of the Andersen 100s and asked for an alternative (the frames are 3.5"). The contractor suggested Windsor Pinnacle Clad as an alternative. I've read on this forum that many professionals do not care for the Windsor product. I'd love to get some recommendations for other options! Also, why not Windsor? Many thanks!

Why not thermally broken aluminum then? Or one of the fiberglass options?

What don't you like about the 100 series? What are you looking for specifically? Have you looked at any of the fiberglass options?

The 100 series have a 3 1/2" frame - that is my biggest objection. Why so big and bulky? I am looking for a more modern profile and the Windsor's have around 1 1/2" frame. I have not looked at other fiberglass options.

Let me first say, the Andersen 100 is not a terrible product at all. It is a fine choice, particularly if you really like the appearance. That being said, it has no advantages over a premium vinyl product, especially because as mentioned above, it is primarily made up of vinyl. You can get dark exterior colors on a vinyl product just like you can on the Andersen, and while the exterior finish warranty will be the same at 10yrs, the rest of the window will continue to be warrantied on the vinyl option. The 10yr warranty on the fibrex material is a very lackluster warranty, and is extremely telling as to how well that material will hold up IMHO. It just strikes me as ironic that someone would be very concerned about the coated exterior on a vinyl windows which is warrantied for 10 yrs (20 yrs in some cases), yet have no qualms about a product where the unit itself is only warrantied for 10 years!? I'm not trying to be argumentative here, just injecting some facts and a little bit of common sense into this thread. :)

Basically, yes.. The price point and contractors/distributors we have narrowed it down to (window replacement is part of a 1200 sqft 2 story addition) are forcing us to consider those. Are there better options in that price range I can inquire about?

I was just talking to someone in Austin as a matter of fact. They were comparing the Marvin Integrity and the Andersen E-Series in this case. I think it is as much a function of what "look" you are going for. Seems to be that the "modern" look is catching on these days to be honest. In that case, the sleeker profiled unit is probably the better look. Does you builder/GC have a window that he/she runs with? In Texas, even in the hill country, you can get away with Thermally Broken aluminum as well where you can't in most of the other parts of the country.

Here is what my contract says: General Structural Framing: • Lumber: 2x4 interior and 2x6 (where specified) interior walls as noted and exterior walls 24" on center unless otherwise noted. Use of treated lumber where required by code for posts, joists, bands within proximity to concrete or ground. Sill on sill seal and continue termite flashing. Penetrations sealed at floor, bottom/top plates, etc. Joints sealed in band joist. • Sill plate at new addition: 2 x 6 pressure-treated pine. • Floor joists, Microlams/LVLs, engineered trusses and roof rafters per agreed upon construction drawings. • Steel Beams (varying sizes) Steel Pipe Columns

Isn't that the frame depth? And that is about the standard for a builders grade window.

I believe that it has a 3 1/2" profile - what you see when you are looking at it in elevation. Perhaps I am reading the drawings incorrectly? The Windsor's have a 1 1/2" profile.

More importantly, I'm looking for a quality window offering that looks modern. Any other window manufacturers that can be recommended would be great.

I will look more later for info regarding the frame and or sightline sizing, but the above being the case, in my opinion then anything Winsdsor would be out..............
