Have fabric for DR chairs (thanks johnatemp) - what to do next?
Comments (4)johnatemp: Thank you for all the tips. The method you describe--0000 steel wool, Murphy's Oil soap and Restore-a-Finish is what I had the most success with recently with my drum tables so I am leaning towards that. Here are the before and afters (two different tables, but you get the idea all the dust and crud that is on the pedestals plus some surface scratching and water rings): Before: After: I find that the oil soap gets in all the crevices better than the mineral spirits when I am working with a carved piece as these chairs are. I used a similar wax product from Howards called Wax & Feed when I did the tables, but just put it on the tops--but the mahogany one you recommend sounds very interesting as well. I'll have to look into that. Do you just wax your table tops or the chairs also? Do you put wax in the carved areas? Sounds like I don't need to do anything special to the fabric other than scotchguard it then? I have a long gauge in my table as well that I am going to have to address at some point. Lucky for me though, it runs right under the table runner so until I can find the time to do it right, I don't want to mess with the finish too much as other than that it's just georgeous....See Morewhat rug to use with checked pattern on chairs?

Comments (8)This is so much easier when you provide us with all the naturally coordinating fabrics so that we know we're in your price range. https://www.fabric.com/find?brands-and-designers=magnolia-home-fashions&colorfamily=blue-and-white I would have started with a rug first, but now that you have your draperies being fabricated, I would select #4 for the seats on your chairs. I wouldn't place an area rug on top of that thick carpet. I would recommend the carpet be replaced with hardsurface flooring and then an area rug selected. Since your fabric design is a batik style, I would two tone your wall paint. Here are some computer generated paint colors that coordinate with the fabric....See Moreuse of pattern in chairs with oriental rug
Comments (4)In general, if your rug pattern is large you will want a smaller pattern on the chairs. If your rug has a small pattern, you can use a larger pattern on the chairs, or something like a stripe. Post a photo of the rug and what style chair you're looking at....See Morelizbeth-gardener
