The door is obviously very sun/weather exposed. If it is very exposed, it might not have much stain remaining. I think I would paint the door. My stained mahogany door is somewhat recessed and does not get all the heat/rain weather that some do that are not recessed. I had a wood door years ago that was orange when I bought the house which I later painted black. It has been years ago but the paint lasted forever. I have been thinking of painting my door and have been very interested in the fine paints of Europe. Albeit expensive, I think if it lasts for years, it makes up for the initial cost. Hello hillarywaldron, I like the concept of the green with your style home. And I do like the idea of brass lanterns just not in the polished brass. Go for an antique brass finish instead as I've shown. You definitely need to power wash the house front and steps. And I'd eliminate the chair - it does nothing aesthetically. Get some large traditional planting urns and use mixed plantings (I've included an image for the concept). I would also suggest a very traditional shutter style with latches- not louvered - as shown in the one image. One other suggestion is adding a small portico. Even though your front door is recessed, the whole of your front facade is flat with no detail. A simple portico would add character and projection in one fell swoop, whereas the urn pediment detail you have now above the door isn't strong enough visually to carry the large house front, even if you add shutters.. Snap a photo on a sunny day then use the Sherwin Williams ColorSnap app to play with the colors. I would select a tone slightly darker than your mortar for the garage door and a color slightly darker than your darkest brick for the front door. I would then on the garage door install magnetic faux hinges and windows; this will add detail to the door, like the below house. I know they can be found on Amazon, not sure where else. Those are great doors, a lot nicer style than your old ones! I would stain the outside, even if it's a little more maintenance, because it would look so much better. It's typical for doors to be painted white on the inside, and I don't think it would look cheap, especially if youl are careful to use the same color and sheen as the rest of your woodwork.
