Aluminum Shakes and Shingles???
Comments (3)spottythecat-great advice...I actually really like those small copper sections you are talking about. My husband would remarry me if I went with a tin roof :). Since the shingles look better for the majority of the roof, I was searching online for maybe a color that would still look OK when I stumbled on these aluminum shingles/shakes. It just seems like I can have it all when it cones to the roof with these products. We have tin on (and inside LOL) several buildings on our current acreage, and I have resigned to the tin quanset that will go to the new place. I actually do like tin and like that we wouldn't be redoing our roof after every major Nebraska hailstorm. Unfortunately, I am not seeing any dealers near me...so I may have to travel to Chicago or Ohio to look at some of these roof choices!...See MoreAluminum Deck Question
Comments (38)I am just finalizing a contract to have a Lock-Dry deck built. I got samples of it and the Arridek and felt that the Lock-Dry seemed to be a better product (and certainly has more color choices). The Lock-Dry units are thicker aluminum, more secure fit, and are powder coated to a more stringent standard (and it shows!). Both far exceed weight requirements for decking, but the test reports are a bit different so it is not a direct comparison. This will be about a 600SF deck over a walkout basement, so about 11 feet high with steps. The builder has a lot of deck experience and has worked with Arridek. We are doing Trex transcend railing, a Trex faschia, and wooden framing. Would love to have done the aluminum framing but $$$$$$. The framing definitenly different since the boards are at right angles to the house**. One of our beams will be gluelam to carry more weight with fewer beams. Will upload pictures when it is done. We went with the saddle brown. I like the Dakota woodgrain but felt the cost was not worth the difference in price for me. **you can run them parallel to the house but the wall of our house is 57 feet and the deck width will range from 6 to 14 feet....See MoreWindow advice please! Comments (39)"It sounds kind of silly, but it looks like it belongs in front of a more contemporary house. It's too modern for my house! " I find this a very odd notion :-) There is nothing particularly contemporary in style about a Japanese maple. They have been planted in Japan for thousands of years. With the right complimentary plantings, there is a cultivar suitable for any style of architecture! I would opt for a JM over messy, deciduous ornamental grasses any day of the week!! Especially for an entry garden. "If weed killer was sprayed, you can’t plant anything or will have to replace dirt around each planting." Just an FYI but this is not at all true. Most herbicides/weed killers retain minimal viability in the soil - they have to interact with growing plant tissue/foliage to be effective - and you can generally replant the area within a couple of days. The product label will always provide this information....See Moresbs1717
