What size/shape table will fit best here??

Hello! Been staring at the plan for our new construction house, and now wondering what size table and what shape you think would work best for our “nook”?? What width table would make it not feel cramped?

In case it is hard to read, it measures 12 ft across (starting from the edge of the island) and 15 ft long (including the bank of cabinets at one end).

Yes we were planning on putting three stools there. Also was planning on putting a chandelier over the dining table, and I think(?) it should probably be centered with the french doors

The space lends itself to a round table, which offers a great deal of flexibility in terms of seating. I like round tables in casual dining areas. I have a 42-inch round and it's too small for 5 people. I recommend at least a 60-inch. You generally want to clear 4 feet around it, which you would accomplish given the dimensions of the actual room. Maybe a mock-up or tape it off to try out a size.

Hi Melinfl- did you go with this mirror? I'm looking at that brand (different model). It's tough to make a decision without seeing it in person. I'd love to know your thoughts if you got it. Is it bright enough? We are installing recessed lighting in the bathroom as well, but I want the mirror led to be functional and not just pretty.

Get a 42 to 48 inch ROUND!!! cocktail if you plan to leave that ottoman in place. You'll have a comfortable 15 or 18 inches of clearance, and no nicked knees or shins. Keep it very light and airy and open. Marble top on iron.....glass on iron or another metal. If wood? Round, Light and VERY open, no shelves etc. Anything else will look like a HUGE SOLID and heavy, "blocky" mass in your room. (Just one, of the many reasons I hate that sectional configuration). Boxes you in, quite literally. Maybe just go to bed? : ) Do NOT add another upholstered thing to that configuration unless this is your basement for the kid sprawl. Even this below." To my mind a bit boxed in but better than a big square. Alas......: )

Looks like you have to decide which is more important, island seating or centering dining on the doors. Between the two seating areas, the table will have to move further away from the island for people to walk comfortably between. Also, the symmetry you'd like will be off by having the island and table so close together.

A rectangular table will fit the space best, and a similar length as the island, since you're dealing with the same aisle widths along with chairs and traffic. How much clearance are you going to give the door swing/dining chair? You can make it so that someone can go in and out while another is seated or, block the one door.

Thank you That’s a bummer. It would be hard to choose either way ....

what about if we do backless stools that we can completely tuck under the island counter? Do you think we could do a 36” wide rectangular table centered on the French doors? I think that would give us 4.5 ft on either side of the table, correct?

Not sure about clearance with the French doors. Would be nice to have both open while we are eating sometimes. How much clearance would that require? Could we fit 6-8 chairs on just the sides of the table if it is 7 ft long (same as length as island)?
