Need help with structure/design to support desktop in home office
Comments (2)There is one set of file drawers on the right side, which you can see in the photo, and in the top drawing. The desk top will go on top of the file drawers and extend around to the left as shown in the yellow shading in the bottom schematic. The supports are not steel. They are wood ledges along the walls, wood support 1.5" deep and 22" wide along the pocket door wall, and then a 3/4" by 8" support perpendicular to the black column. I would love guidance on how the supporting structure needs to be built to safely hold up the desk top....See MoreShould I lower window? Need help with custom built ins in home office
Comments (14)"I could consider facing the slider. Perhaps I could build the desk so that it is T shaped along the wall with the window and I could sit at the desk facing the slider?" I think this is your best solution. That way, you have the view of the outside, but the monitors aren't floating in the middle of the room. To me, I think your best investment is a larger desk. Built-ins are great, but technology change each day and we are using less and less paper with more stored in our computers. You have that closet already, where items (including your printer) could be stored. Also, consider how long you will be in this house. Will a future owner want to use that space for a bedroom, for example? Best to keep things flexible. On the other hand, if you really want built-ins and have the funds, then go for it. But, the way you wanted the desk arranged in the beginning, the monitors will be floating out in the room. No horrible, but something to consider....See MoreHome Office help needed
Comments (25)Flo I appreciate the time your spending with me. Okay so to answer some of your questions Yes, looking into the room from French doors the registers are on the left wall and the windows are on opposite side. I also realized I’m even more limited in space due to the French doors swinging inside the room by about 15”. I really do only have 2 solid walls at 123” long to work with. We just got rid of our 1990’s L shaped office set up which was set up in that ideal L shaped corner but would love to switch it up and be able to look out my windows when working. Speaking of working, I do work from home with my business and my husbands side business is also run from our home office as well so it gets lots of use. I need space for typical daily office supplies so looking to have adequate storage. Now the calendar wall idea was to replace those plastic calendars with a 50”w x 36h” piece of acrylic to use as a dry erase calendar with some standoffs. I would have space underneath that on the floor for a lateral file cabinet. I did think the desk was a bit too big but trying to convince hubby to change it. He’s a work in progress right now :-)...See MoreHome Office Needs HeLp
Comments (5)Let's experiment a bit. Move the current desk in front of the window. Move the trestle table to where the desk is now. Shove the coffee table out of the way. Put the rug under the office chair space to protect the floor. Move your rolling office chair and stuff into this room and use it for a week. See how it goes. In the short run, you'll need to decide if this is YOUR serious full time business office or a shared space with a shared computer where you have to consider someone else's preferences. Do you have a separate work computer? Do you use a computer every workday from 9 to 5?...See MoreNajeebah
