It's October 2014. How is your build? Part 2
Comments (107)Well, it's onward and forward for us. Our house is looking so big at this point! I knew it was a big house, but it's hard to visualize from a blueprint how big your house will actually be. We are loving it though and have been very pleased with the progress so far. Framing is almost finished. The roofer is starting tomorrow. And the siding starts on Monday. Oh, and I forgot to mention that about a week and a half ago we almost lost our house. Our framers had just put up some very large trusses and had already left for the day when a huge wind storm hit. Luckily our excavator was still working at the site because it wasn't long before our walls and roof starting moving back and forth. He quickly called the framers back and they quickly tried to secure everything. There were braces everywhere and chains bolting trusses to the floor. Our framers were quite creative and they saved our house with minimal damage. We really do have the best framers working on our house and feel very blessed that our house is still standing! Anyways, here are the pictures for this month: Front of the house. I know a lot of people don't like garages that stick out from the house like this, but I love the way it's turning out for us. This is the view our guests will have when they walk in our front door. Looking out from my kitchen into the great room and dinning room. The back of our house. (The window on the upper left still hasn't been cut out). When standing in my backyard, this is when my house feels so big, but I love it!...See MoreIt's October 2013. How is your build part 2!
Comments (70)flgargoyle - why the name change? Just curious. Good to see your post and glad to hear you are still at it! Congrats on passing your inspections. I am sure it is a bit more intense when you are the contractor/home owner. Can't wait to see more pics. We have a shed dormer in the front that is the small open area upstairs. I like it but sometimes wish we had 2 for bedrooms instead. :) So dh drove by the property this morning - 3 inches of rain in the basement. Rained all day long but a slight reprieve for trick-or-treat. It's back raining again now though. I cannot wait until we've got it boxed in - weather tight!...See MoreDecember reading part 2
Comments (17)Drat and double drat. My library is closed today and tomorrow to celebrate the New Year. I was there just last night and had a lovely chat with a librarian friend. But I NEED to get my hands on the Will Thomas books that cece and Siobhan mentioned. Now I have to wait all...the...way...until...Friday. In the meantime, I am reading: The Tales of Beedle the Bard - J.K. Rowling Gone with the Wind - Margaret Mitchell Jane and Prudence - Barbara Pym Hyacinth Bucket's Hectic Social Diary - TOTAL and COMPLETE brain potato chip to use cece's phrase. But what fun. Finished it this morning. The first three books I am reading simultaneously as the mood strikes. First one, then the other, then the third. All are good. I am only on page 26 of the Pym so cannot form a strong opinion yet, but I am expecting to enjoy it. PAM...See MoreReading in October
Comments (94)I've finished another Ilona Andrews, Gunmetal Magic, and I think I've now read everything the authors currently have in print. I'm completely hooked and I'm eagerly awaiting Sweep in Peace, which comes out on Kindle sometime in November. I also finished Celia's House by D.E. Stevenson, which was charming and sweet in a classic English-Countryside-Between-the-Wars sort of way. My library requests for the rest of the Max Tudor mystery series by G.M. Malliet have come through, and I have four books waiting to be collected tomorrow. I'm looking forward to those. Lemonhead, I have The Queen's Houses on my Christmas list, I'd delighted to hear you liked it....See Morewritersblock (9b/10a)
