Cabinets or Drawers / Your best cabinet or drawer??????
Comments (12)My kitchen reno was done before I found GW. So, I have 2 24" cabinets with slide out shelves and wish I had made at least one of them an additional bank of deep drawers. One cabinet is good for the height adjustability factor. I do love my slide out 15" cabinet. It houses paper towels and soda bottles on the bottom shelf and long boxes of foil, plastic wrap, parchment, plastic bags, silpat, etc. on the top shelf. There was supposed to be a third shallow shelf on top, but it got lost in the shuffle and it's still OK. The other cabinet I find very useful is the 12" cabinet with vertical dividers next to the sink. It houses cutting boards, dish drainers, cooling racks, cookie sheets, shallow bake/roast pans, and my ever faithful folding step stool right where I need them. It's very deep and holds a lot. I also love my corner Super Susan with no pole in the center....See MoreWill Adjustable Drawer Divider be useful?
Comments (29)Jukuvall, thank you so much. I don't know all the cabinet terminology so let me see if I can figure it out. "Removed drawerhead" I guess it is the outside front that has the pull on it. "screwed into dividers" I am not sure about this part. Then you used a drill to make holes for the pins? "2 pins on each end" (a previous post) "and 2 rows of holes". Does this mean 2 pins on top and bottom of the end of your 5 1/2" divider so the pin will fit into the 2 rows of holes that you drilled in the drawer box? I think I just confused myself. LOL IT is possible my brain is filled with sheetrock dust! I know my sinuses are for sure. LOL If the pins are in the divider then how can I put the divider in place....no, I have it all wrong. I saw the little pin holes in 2little fishes drawer box. Is it the same? Your picture shows just the box and dividers. Others look like an interior box was added. That would take up room so I like what you did. Help. I am so confused. LOL A2, what is the material you used for your dividers? I have seen it before. Is it MDF? Did they put grooves in yours? Taggie and 2littlefishies, I put my cookie sheets above my oven, but dang that AR double oven is tall. I might have to put them in a deep drawer like you did. Suck great ideas! Thank you all. Comments (19)Chefkev, the brass dividers have brass points on the outside that you pound into the drawer - maybe 1/4". Mine have been in for about 3 years and haven't moved. The wood just slides in or out. I tried to make mine pretty snug but I can still pop them out. Comments (19)Never mind, I finally found a pair of tin snips that would do the trick. Just some advice in case anyone ever stumbles across this thread with the same problem: 1) If you haven't already bought the divider tracks and your drawer sides are under 4", FIND ANOTHER SOLUTION! I think I could have made drawer dividers out of wood easier than cutting these things down. 2) If you have already bought the things, cut them BEFORE attaching them to the boards. One end of the things has longer extension and if you only have to cut 1/8" or so and you cut the short end, you'll cut one of the sharp prongs off. Put them in a vise if you have one. It will keep the metal thing from twisting and cutting crooked when you make the cut if you have to use both hands on the tin snips like I did. If you don't have a vise, put one end of the metal thing under a heavy object. If you can cut with one hand, use pliers to hold the thing The tin snips bend the end a little. Use regular pliers in one hand to hold the thing and needle nose pliers in the other to straighten the end. If not, and they slip, those prongs can puncture your thumb faster than you can say OUCH! And then it's hard to cut the rest of them. This probably goes without saying, but put all the cut ends down because they are sharp....See MoreBeth
