Built-in desk/buffet or freestanding sideboard?

I have a space in my dining area that needs some type of storage (china, stemware, small electrics). It is adjacent to my kitchen and runs into the refrigerator cabinet. I would also benefit from a desk space of some sort as I do not have an office in my home and could definitely use file storage and a spot for my sewing machine(which would be hidden behind the skirt),

I have two ideas and need to decide which one before I embark on the final phase of my kitchen cabinet painting.

The space is below the two stationary windows, to the left of the refrigerator

The space measures 85" long. I do have a dining table and chairs, same as pictured below. I usually keep the table in a circle. I am adding two slipcovered wing chairs.

So so should I do a skirted, built in buffet/desk? This would give me quite a bit of storage behind the skirt and allow me a desk spot until I finish my basement.

Or or I did find this sideboard at a local furniture shop. It is only 74" long so I will have about 5" of space on either side. This piece does have a shelf inside and could hold quite a bit of China and stemware.

My cabinets are being painted a linen color and will not be distressed. Kitchen inspiration photo:

What do you think, built-in skirted desk/buffet or sideboard?
