How can we add curb appeal to this house?
Comments (17)Hi, I totally agree about lowering the windows as long as it doesn't affect the furniture arrangement. My home has a lot of almost to the floor windows and it makes the house look designed as opposed to having punched out of the wall windows. I really agree with Doug's ideas re the landscaping and updating the walk. Right now all the lines of your home and walk and steps are linear. I would put a curve into the sidewalk. That will soften the look and set the set off the house. Also your door and steps are the welcome to the public and if cost permits, I would make the stairs have rounded / curved fronts. I am not knowledgable in the f.s. but if all the lines are straight , it won't be comfortable. So, I would reiterate and suggest that you bring in curves....See MoreAdd curb appeal to house
Comments (8)I definitely think spindles on the porch rail. And a wider path made of brick or stone. Match the handrail to the new porch railings. Maybe do handrails both sides of the stairs. It looks like you have doubled posts at the corners of the porch, with horizontal bars in between? I’d consider replacing with a single square post. I’d consider a different (darker ) color lattice below the porch, or even something other than lattice (siding or squares instead of diamond lattice) I also think the house is cute. I like the roof overhangs. It is fine the way it is too. Congrats on your new house...See MoreCurb appeal advice for a side entry door and flat exterior house?
Comments (10)You have an acre of pavement in front of your house. Frankly, no house with a parking lot for a yard ever looks charming. And you have a less-than-lovely hose reel to water the plants you don't have. Tear up the pavement in the area between the garage and the chimney and plant some greenery. Make sure you have a shrub tall enough to cover the hose and pipes. The pergolas won't match the style of your house and it will just look odd, IMHO....See MoreHow to add more curb appeal to our new construction?
Comments (21)The majority here frown upon a garage in front of a home. I really hate it when the snark comes out with the old ”house attached to the garage” line is thrown out there, Its not low key passive agressive, we all get it. Im not sure anybody would choose to have their garage as the prime feature of their home. There are many reasons why people have this style home, first is $$ and second is lot size. Having said that, like mark said, buy the nicest garage door you can find. I think you need to wait until your home is finished for real useful advice. Congrats on your new home, may the build be uneventful....See MoreChristina Pali
