Update on Charity Plant sale!
Comments (0)That's the begging letter...if it moves you to help me and you need hard copies please let me know. I am putting the blog link on the bottom and that has an example of the press release a major Hort group asked me to write to they can encourage their members to help.... I am planning a charity plant sale to benefit Childrens Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals in support of Children's Hospital Boston (see enclosed) to be held this May 2011 . I would like your assistance. I successfully facilitated a small-scale plant sale May 2010 and raised $10,500.00. I hope to raise $20,000 in 2011. I am asking for your support in donating: * Any plant material such as Aloe Vera plants, African Violets, and more common seasonal annuls and perennials * propagation supplies (seeds, light carts, trays, plug cells, starting mix, plant tags, fertilizer, seed mats, etc) * Any staff that would like to spend a few hours sharing their knowledge of plants at the sale; monetary donations were always greater when a green-thumb was on hand to advise. Volunteers will receive a one day shopping pass to Costco Avon. * Any other items you think would be helpful in this endeavor would be welcome as well. Costco Avon will provide one extra large CMN Hospitals Sponsorship Poster with your business information posted in a prominent location for any donation worth $500 at retail. The 6 Costco locations in MA and NH, partnering with the CMN Hospitals, raised over $147,000 for Children 's Hospital Boston in 2010. Please join us in helping a great cause that has tremendous impact on the lives of so many local children and families. This request can be validated by contacting Shannon Collins (Warehouse Manager) or Eric DeSatnick (Marketing Manager) at Costco Avon, 508-232-4001. For any other questions, or to coordinate a donation, you may contact me (or my husband Aaron) directly. Comments (15)I have always donated and volunteered. I blame my parents for bringing us up so well. They started us when my brother and I were kids and I've never stopped. I prefer hospice, and that has been where I donate or volunteer. Since moving, I have donated to hospice, homeless garden project, several women's groups and that is it so far. I haven't done any thanksgiving stuff this year, I like the idea of preparing a meal for a family, that is awesome! Right now, funds are not flowing as much as I'd like them to. Next year, more to do... I am very thankful of the things all of you do, I don't consider it bragging, I consider those things important and worth mentioning. I do have a best friend who started a few years back with a practice that involves doing good acts--donating, volunteering and other things--but instead of mentioning it to anyone, she keeps it to herself. I am such a big mouth, I'm not sure I could do it!! I did it for two things this year, but mostly I can't keep that stuff to myself...:) Thanks for starting this post, I think it gives us all ideas on what we can be doing....See MoreCharities that want you to send notices to neighbors?
Comments (24)We were strong-armed at work for the United Way every year. We weren't forced to donate but we did have to at least fill out our donation card one way or another and each department was closely monitored as to how many responses they got. It was terrible. I went to the public library and easily found out how much the local (Minneapolis) United Way leaders were making and realized that even if I donated $100 a week FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE I wouldn't even make up one single year of their salary. I stopped giving at that point. I've never been asked to collect from neighbors and would never do so! I'd rather volunteer my time in a more meaningful way, and I do....See MoreOT--Where can you donate towels too?
Comments (36)Just getting ready to unplug my computer and all it's extras so I haven't read through the responses---my apologies if my suggestion is a repeat. I used to take older towels and blankets to our two Humane Societies. The last time I took a very big black plastic yard bag filled and they apologized but couldn't accept them because they were running out of room to store the donated items. In other words, they had plenty at the time. We have a Day Care for Seniors near our home, about 2 miles as the crow flies. Adults who still have to work but have elder loved ones living with them can use this place daily or weekly. Crafts, music, reading stations, breakfast lunch and a couple snacks daily, even outings ---it's a great place! But being these are seniors and as seniors do, they have all the same accidents as a young child would have. I take my older towels, cut them in good-sized squares, do a quick zig-zag stitch along all the edges, clean up all the stray fabric with scissors, wash them, put them in a clean box and drop them off at the senior day care. The people who run the Senior day care love it! See if you don't have a Senior Center around that would gladly take the towels, cut or uncut....See MoreRelated Professionals
