SW Blonde on Ceilings and Walls - Tell me it will be okay!!
Comments (3)I've never posted here before but had to chime in that I agree - using the same color on both ceiling and walls w/ the trim and crown in Navajo White will really look great - it just gives such a refined and "finished" appearance as kitchendetective said. And you can't go wrong with Blonde - it is warm and classic but has enough color to have some personality. You'll love it and I also disagree with the school of thought that says painted ceilings make a room look closed in and smaller. We have a pretty saturated SW color on our dining room walls and ceiling and get loads of compliments....See MoreCan someone tell me about carpet (wall to wall)?
Comments (6)We recently recarpeted our home. My experience is to stay clear of the "box" stores as they generally carry lesser grades of well known brands but, most significantly, the sales people are not knowledgable like experienced personnel from carpet specialty stores. Additionally, the low price install is offset by other costs applied by the "box" places - like padding and stair install charge, haul-away, etc. We believe our premium to purchase from a specialty store may only have been $125 and the install is very nice. I believe there is specialty padding for basements with a built-in moisture barrier. That said, I would be VERY cautious about wall-to-wall carpet in a basement. Basements are generally damp and you must consider the possibility (certainty) of a water heater leak or sump pump failure. I would suggest an area rug or a bound carpet which could be removed should it become necessary. Our stairs to the basement are carpeted with a very dense nylon plush which has minimal matting after several years....See MoreWhat paint/fabrics for lilac wall to wall carpet
Comments (11)Hi, Thanks for the suggestions. I have owned the home for 2 years and the carpet is at least 12 years old it has paint stains (po was an artist) and some pet stains. I know the new carpet is good quality since the offer is from someone who is in the flooring business. I want to spruce up the space anyway and this would allow my child to play on clean carpet for the cost of installation. We are doing a lot of projects and really could use the monetary savings. I like the idea of cream since it could work with my floral wallpaper up in the bathroom. I know gray is pretty but I think the natural trim may look off with it. Off to check teh galleries......See Moredo these bad pictures of an old Persian rug make it look okay?
Comments (21)Your rug appears to be quite a good one. It looks almost exactly like a 3 1/2' x 5' that I inherited from my parents, especially in the colors and patterns. I took mine for a cleaning about a year ago by an Oriental rug specialist out here and he explained to me the following, which possibly might apply to yours: Mine is an Iranian Sarouk and was imported to the States around 1918-1925. Sarouks were extremely popular then, but American buyers preferred heavier colors, so after arriving in the States the reds and darker blues were re-dyed to enhance them. If you turn the rug over it should show the exact detailed pattern, but in more pale hues (quite pretty actually). The dealer also said that my rug was worth around $3,000. He said that if well-cared for - vacuumed, occasionally cleaned, and kept free of pet stains it should last another 75 years. I've also been told that these rugs like bare feet on them; that's how they were originally made to be walked on. I think your parents' rug is a beauty and well-worth having! Google "Sarouk carpets" to learn more and compare colors and designs....See MoreCJ Mac
