Pay realtor's commission?

I am buying condo. It was appraised for $20,000 less than the price agreed upon with the seller. Because of this seller canceled a $2000 seller’s assist they were going to provide. The seller also asked if I would pay my realtor’s commission. My realtor told them no. Later my realtor told me that he is not going to take his commission, but I can pay him something if I want to. I don’t know why he did that. I don’t see how it is different from me paying his commission when the seller asked if I would do it.

My realtor’s commission is around $2000-3000. I suppose it may be worth paying it to get the condo. I am somewhat anxious to get this condo because it’s practically the only place that I have found in a nice neighborhood in the price range I want to spend. I don’t know I the seller would have agreed to the sale if my realtor hadn’t declined to take his commission. Do you think I should pay his commission?
