Should stove or fridge be closer to kitchen table?

Hi!

We are renovating our kitchen and taking down 2 walls (one leads to a 4' extension where the previous owners kept their fridge), the other leads to the dining room/only eating area-- It's an old house & tiny kitchen w/ many quirks. My dilemma is where to put the stove & fridge-- where I have them below are basically the only 2 places they could go. I prefer to have the fridge closer to the table, but my husband is worried it will be blocky and ugly there & close off the kitchen area in a way we'd rather avoid (we are taking down walls after all to get a more open feel). We could also do a peninsula between the kitchen & dining room, but then the stove would have to go there I think, and I'm not crazy about a peninsula with a stove.

Any advice? Is there a rule of thumb as to where the stove or fridge should go?
