Which 24" gas stove should I buy? (or should I?)
Comments (9)There are professional style 24"gas ranges, the best being Bluestar, but they're very expensive. I don't like the cheap Summit or Brown ranges. Avanti makes cheap 24" ranges that well, are perhaps O.K. - there are many different models, and some seem very cheap and flimsy- the pricier models seem somewhat better- Perhaps a better gas range for the $$ is Italian and goes under several names with minor differences. Different brands import them under different names. Avanti used to market it as the "Elba" DG2401C- Some online store called Sam's sells 'reconditioned' ones for about $1,000. A place called Rainbow lists it for much more. Delonghi also sells a similar range,Model: DEFSGG24SS or did at one time.- not sure if they're available any more. It's also known as the Verona VEFSGG244SS- Amazon sells it for about $1,830. Fisher Paykel also sells a similar range at a premium price. Fisher Paykel OR24SDMBGX2- $1850 or more. Bertazzoni sells their own gas range for about $2,000....See MoreSpace / overhang between countertop and stove / fridge
Comments (5)thanks for the replys.. Debrak - you are saying nice tight fit between the stove and base cab? Thats what I am thinking. The tile (which is gone now) caused the gap. I was thinking about leaving 1/2 inch on each side of the stove. Thoughts?...See MoreThoughts on Fridge and Stove placement
Comments (14)I agree with others that a range directly next to a door is not ideal. You’re working with a pretty tight space though. I can relate - I’ve lived in a few tiny rentals where you just make do with what you’ve got. You know what I’d do? Unplug both appliances and switch them just to see if it improves the space. It’s a mock-up in real life ;) And don’t tell the building code police, but could you move the light switch to the other side of the wall? We did that in my kitchen but it’s open concept so it was less of a no-no. Or is there room by that HVAC duct to put the light switch there? I know there are rules about these things but a switch behind a fridge is not ideal either. Could be cheaper to move it than to do the other electrical work you’re considering. Shoot, close the pantry and put the switch there. Ha! Re: the desk. It sounds like the current situation is bugging you. Does the opening there allow for you to use a hutch style desk? The sides would keep the splatter off your workspace and rein in the clutter creep. It’d have to have some distance from the range for fire hazard reasons, depending on what your appliance manual says. Or you could put a small cabinet there with a counter and overhang for a work space. Just something tiny like the attached image. I can’t tell from your comments if that’s appropriate for that space and your use of the desk....See MoreChefs kitchen appliances: fridge, stove top and range hood
Comments (9)From what I understand, Viking used to make great appliances a long time ago. Is there a reason you don't want to keep your old refrigerator? The Subzero is beautiful if price is no object and if you are very fastidious, but I would keep the Viking if it is in good condition. Pairing a ductless ventilation unit with a 48" gas range is actually dangerous. There is a reason these vents are pictured with induction cooktops. Why do you need a ductless vent hood? Is it simply aesthetics? If so, I would recommend swapping the range top for a large induction cooktop. Especially if you aren't an experienced cook (the range top-ventilation paring you proposed is a big clue), you'll be happier with the ease of use of an induction cooktop. Plus, they look really sleek if you get them built into the counter if it's a specific look you are coveting....See MoreToronto Veterinarian
