need ideas for Roomba storage

We are building a new house and I'd like ideas for storage places for a Roomba that allow the machine to dock itself in a place that is out of the way,not underfoot and allows it to come and go on its own. I am thinking of using the toe kick area under a kitchen counter...has anyone done this or does anyone have another idea??

The most common place is under the unused kitchen desk.

Good question, beachgal. Right now ours docks in a bedroom we use as an office. It's in an out-of-the-way corner under a chair. I haven't given it much thought since it's pretty much just the two of us who use that room.

BTW, love my Roomba!

Camlan: you are one awesome ~ and super organized~ person! You've inspired me and I love your ideas and system!!! I'm following your system. After I read your suggestions, I ran down to the local Dollar Tree where I picked up 10 large plastic shoe boxes, ($10) which will temporarily hold my photos as I sort through them. I also bought 2 packs of (20 total) manila file folders ($2) that I'm going to cut up into dividers for each box to categorize the pics by year and then subcategories for events, holidays and whatever. I like your idea about scanning the best onto flash drives. I can store the master FD in our safe deposit box, I guess. I'd like to create DVDs with special events, holidays, vacations on them vents on them and then make copies for our two kids . . . eventually. I just went back to look at my intimidatingly huge box of photos and I'm so glad that I now have a plan of action to deal with them! Thank you for taking the time to put your ideas down for me and for many of us here who are in similar situations. I really appreciate it! Now, has anybody created their own DVD's from their scanned photos? I do want to make up some myself. I'm too frugal and too creative to have some company do it for me . . . but is it very difficult to do if you have a good photo scanner? Did you use any special program? DLM: I totally agree with you, I know many people that would love to hire Camlan to do this for them. Goldie: good luck with your own project. And, yes, definitely archival-quality albums and photo boxes. Eandhl: good idea and one I'm going to use: get rid of all copies (and similar) photos right away. Thanks! Need storage ideas for nook area

Iris makes nice containers that have a locking lid with a silicone seal to keep critters out. I use these for my big bags of grain that we use to make bread and oatmeal and haven't had any issues with bugs getting in. If you could put the seed in one of the shorter containers it might fit in a bench? Tractor Supply sells these (I think Amazon does, too) as well as a small metal bird food storage can with a lid that I'm pretty sure your would be pest proof if you wanted to move the food into the garage. The availability of MDO depends the lumberyard, call around. As for "sealing" it, it's designed to be painted and its surface looks a bit like cardboard. Paint would be your best option for finish longevity. I suppose you could use spar varnish but I'd save that for real wood. If you're looking for something "nicer" there is marine grade plywood as well. As an aside, don't confuse MDO with MDF (medium density fiberboard), they are two entirely different products.

Need a creative idea for swimspa steps/storage

Our control panel is on the right (2nd photo) and we roll the cover all the way to the left. We never roll to the middle - we like the middle free and clear to go from swim side to spa side easily. We get in and out at any point along the seat wall (sit on wall and swing legs over) however the most popular spot to go in and out is at the mid point between swim and spa side (kind of like where your moveable steps are). There is a gap of about 6" between the spa and wall in order for the cover flaps to go down. We worked with a landscape architect to make all this work. Again, send more photos when you can and I can help you trouble shoot. Do you use yours year round? We have had ours for a year and love it - we use it all the time.

Hmm, no help here but an interesting idea. Not sure toe kick would work for the following reason: suppose you have it there, Roomba does its job and returns to dock. You need to empty the bin. How do you access roomba? My Roomba gets under my range in the middle of my cabinet run to clean, but if I picture the roomba docked against the back wall underneath the cabinets there, I'd have a hell of a time crawling down there to get it out. And Roomba does want to dock against a wall. If not, it pushes the dock around and has trouble getting redocked.

I just built a house and just got a Roomba, and while I love Roomba, it would be great to have a good place for it to be docked. So I am definitely interested to see what you come up with, and to see if others have ideas/solutions for you. Here, in Ontario, code is very strict and I couldn't even get an outlet in my hall closet to put the cordless Dyson vac dock. Against code to have an outlet in a closet. Grr . So even if I had planned, not sure I could have made it work anywhere reasonable. ( I found this one of the most frustrating things in building a house--I tried to plan so as to have everything in its place, minimal clutter space, thinking all details in advance, but then the trades seem to always want to come through and smack a doorbell or an alarm panel or a smoke detector or an outlet or a heat vent right where you don't want it. And tell you why you can't have it where you did want it. GRR.)

I think if you *can* have an outlet in a closet that would be easiest. Just leave the door open for Roomba and close it when she's done.

I see this post is three years old. What did you come up with for storing your robot vac? I’m currently looking for a solution now.

I have open stairs and was able to tuck it in a place where it is not obvious. Good thing I have power back there!
