As soon as possible. Aroid seeds do not stay viable for a long time. if you wait for a certain time of year they will die. You can start them in a slightly damp folded paper towel in a zipper bag and when it has roots about a half inch long transfer them to soil. keep them away from cold and in bright indirect light. No direct sun!

Rhaphidophora tetrasperma is only distantly related to Monstera and Philodendron. It is from almost the other side of the world in SW asia, the others are from central and south america. Grow it in a good moist but not wet loose fast draining grow mix, Something like 50% - 60% shredded bark or pumice, with the rest equal parts peat and compost with a little charcoal tossed in, mix it all well and don't pack it down into the pot. Alot of folks here would recommend Turface but I've never used it so I can't give an opinion of it but I've been in the research greenhouses at MOBOT in St. Louis and they use a similar mix there and some of the plants grow in it for years. Than give it something to climb cuz it'll want to climb if you give it good growing conditions. By giving it a pole to climb it will attach its roots to that rather than something like a table leg or the molding around your windows. If you get roots that just stick out in the air you can either guide them as they get longer back into the potting mix to aid in feeding the upper portions of the plant, leave them to hang loosely or just cut them off. Ideally, humidity should be on the higher end of things but like most house plants it should be able to adapt somewhat to home conditions, Just don't let it dry out. I have for the last couple of years ran a humidifier and it makes a huge difference to both my plants and how I feel during the winter. Hi Is this one of those species often called "shingle plants" Many years ago there was a nursery in Boynton Beach .Among the many botanical wonders he had growing was a " New Guinea shingle plant" The remarkable thing about it was the leaves were red with black stripes .Overlapped much like shingles on a roof . The effect was breathtaking lol. Unfortuneately , I never got any info . Feel certain it was a Rhaphidophora but have never found it . I want one for my new seep wall but all I can find are the green types. Anyone know about this??? gary

I used both containers and the hoophouse. The containers held mostly perennials while the hoophouse was used for annuals and tender things. The zinnias all germinated great, but I had problems with them growing after planting out. I used styrofoam cups in the hoophouse. The plastic I use/d is 6mil, clear. I buy mine 10' x 25'. I have two 4'x8' beds I'll probably use this year. I spaced my hoops every 2'. I survived snow and ice last year, but I had to rebuilt it in March. The winds were a lot stronger than normal. Like Trudi says, be careful of moisture. Heat can kill things quickly in the spring. I never left mine closed during the day after March 15 or so. I always had to leave it partially open or it got too hot inside. I think this year, I'll sow annuals in one, perennials in the other, and maybe make a third one for cuttings, etc. I also plan to sow fewer seeds, but more, smaller containers than last year. I'd like nursery type starts to set out in my garden rather than fumbling with HOSs. I'll be sowing perennials this way. I like having chunks of annuals like petunias and marigolds scattered around.
