And for those science-minded individuals, I will point out that as the water runs out the bottom of the pot, it pulls fresh air down into the mix (which contains oxygen, of course.) The reason air gets pulled down is because something must replace the water which is occupying spaces in the potting mix, just as the water displaced air in those spaces when it was 1st poured in. Having a good mix with lots of air spaces is vital. And I also wanted to point out that the OP is from Arizona, a very arid environment, and rhizo is from Al, a very humid environment. In addition to environment, the plant being grown should be a factor in pot selection.

Shuffles, Mine also took that long to start to producing fruit, but once it starts to bloom, it will really send out a lot of blooms. Unfortunately, I also noticed that the blooms are also dropping off at a quick rate. Now, I can see some fruit forming, but not many. I have yet to find out if Web worm infestation is my problem. I heard that wooded trees like oak trees are often the culprit for hosting a whole hose of unwanted creepies. We're now spraying BT on our lychee and mangoes and that helps, but I will soon learn more if Web worm attacks cherry blooms too. To me, it is not quite normal for fruit trees not to be producing such scanty fruit. There must be some way to deal with this, but I just don'the know how at this moment. I'll post again if I find out more info. In the mean time, I'd appreciate hearing from those of you who have experienced successful cropping with this tree.

I have used several different types of batting but for hand quilting wool is the nicest to use. I ditto all that has been said about wool as it is my favorite but a little pricey. I am not a fan of warm and natural but think I am in the minority. I find quilters dream has a nice offering of batting, I like the 80/20 for machine quilting. I had used Hobbs 80/20 for several but find the more recent one's I used were terribly out of shape when unrolled. For quilts for children that are often washed I use polyester batting as it is light wt. and washes well and dries fast. I haven't used just cotton but do have one in my stash that I will use on one sometime soon but concerned about the shrinkage.

they already are in their second year .. now or later is your choice ... but in MI ... i would go too deep into fall .. as with ground freeze and winter heave... i would want that single division well planted early enough for it to all settle in ... if its on the side of the clump ... you might be able to just dig that one side.. and rip it out of there ... rather than dig up the whole ... if you do intend to dig it up.. look for that post on moving a fully leafed out hosta .. tie up the momma with the rope.. and tape off the green ... and just cut or pull the green one apart ... take some pix of the process .. if you can do it without getting your camera all dirty ... and do a post about it ... ken
