Hoya serpens? Hoya newbie checking in for advice
Comments (7)I think the fertilizer you got will be fine. A balanced fertilizer is good for all around growth and flowering. A fertilizer with a high first number has more Nitrogen and is used for growth but can inhibit flowering in certain plants and overuse can cause growth that is attractive to insect pests. Fertilizers with a high middle number have high Phosphorus and are often called bloom boosters for their abilities to bring plants into bloom or to increase bloom size or numbers but Phosphorus also helps with root growth. I always mix fertilizer at only half the strength recommended on the bottle unless it was designed for epiphytes like orchids. Mike...See MoreRooting Hoya praetorii
Comments (7)Hills, While I do not grow this particular hoya, I've grown plants and gardened for many years. I'm thinking that with mealies and treatment, your plant is significantly compromised and stuggling not only to regenerate its root system but also support its top growth. If it were my plant, I would cut it way back (and root the cuttings) and let the roots dry out a bit before repotting in a fresh mix and disinfected pot. The reduction in top growth will allow it to focus its energy on developing a strong and healthy root system but you will likely not see any new growth above the soil for some time. Hope this helps. lisa...See MoreProblems in rooting Hoya Imperialis - Yellow Leaves
Comments (10)Hi Jaci and thank you for your answer.. I am also keeping them on a heater (may act as a heat mat, hopefully) I wish I could add some pictures here, but unfortunately I had a cutting and I divided it into two for more chance of rooting. One cutting has only 1 leaf where the other had two. So I should be worried about loosing a leaf, right? I also put some of the leaves I cut into water. Maybe they will root but as much as I read they will only root will not produce a stem and grow up. Thank you very much.....See MoreHelp with I.D. of my hoyas (last one!) - Hoya carnosa ?
Comments (1)It is a carnosa and it will do just fine in that West window! The leaves will lighten, but more light does encourage blooming (however, carnosa is one of those that likes to take it's sweet time to bloom...it could take a couple of years)....See MoreLily Roberts
