IIRC that Dacor runs about $2800-$3000 and does not have a self-cleaning oven. If you've searched here on Dacor stoves, you don't need me to tell you that the reviews are mixed and anumbers of the negative reviews have been about the electronics. That Kitchenaid does have self-cleaning and may be a lot like the Superba you are replacing. I looked at this model last fall when I was stove shopping. Seems to me it was more expensive back then, around $2400. I see AJMadison has it listed now for abot $2,050. IIRC, this stove has a triple tier 15k-btu-hr burner which can be useful with boiling water in larger pots. The other burners were standard capped-ring styles which were 12k and two 6k burners. I passed on this KA because of some personal preferences. Let me emphasize that these are personal preferences. One of them is that I wanted to have both larger burners up front, while this one has the 15k burner at the left front with the 12k burner at the right rear. Second, for the way I cook and what I cook with, a 6k simmer burner would not get used much, and this stove has two of them. Third, Kitchenaid and Whirlpool have had a surprising rate of circuitboard/oven controller failures and shutdowns from self-cleaning operations. Do a search. I had the impression that the company had made some design changes in 2012 -- mostly adding a bigger circuit board cooling fan --- that was supposed to have fixed the problem, but I was not sure that had happened with the models I was looking at back then. Might want to research that. Have you looked at the GE Cafe gas stoves. They are slide-in style stoves without the cooktop which overhangs the countertops (which is how most slide-ins come these days.) Models CGS975, 985 and 990. The first is similar in design to the KA with a few more features including a fifth griddle burner (which some like and some don't) and the option for locking out the control knobs (might be handy if toddlers are running around the kitchen. The oven is bigger, as well. The CGS985 turns the warming drawer into a "baking drawer." (It's basically like a 120v countertop toaster oven that has been shoehorned into a warming drawer at the bottom of the stove. The CGS990 gives you two fully functional gas ovens. If you can/will consider pro-style gas stoves, have a look at the Blue Star RCS ($3500) and the NXR ($2000). Neither have self-cleaning ovens. The BS has open burners, a heavier duty construction, and a large following here at GW so you can find all kinds of info on them. The NXR is a very nice stove for $2k, which makes it currently the least expensive pro-style range available in the US. As you doubtless know, it too has a following here at GW. Both stoves can be adapted for use as a slide-in. One possible downside is that the NXR is almost 30" wide where most slide-ins are 29 7/8" wide. Rikerk - I have not installed as yet. Our project got delayed and now I have been waiting for the drywaller to come finish the ceiling. I don't want to install the new island and rangetop until the ceiling is done. Anyway, we did remove the rangetop from the shipping carton this past weekend and have put it on the base cabinet to try to determine how we will mount it (this is sitting in the livingroom so not actually in place). FYI, we are also doing an island mount. I am using the dimensions listed on the "Specification" sheet from the Capital website but will verify tonight when I get home. There is a lip that is 7/8" high with a 1/2" indentation on the sides. On the sides the indentation does not come all the way from the back to the front since the faceplate is the full width (in my case 36") across the front. This faceplate is 3-1/4" deep (including the bullnose). The indentation on the back is also 7/8" high but is only 3/8" deep. This indentation allows the rangetop to sit on the counter. I am going to have the granite people come and look at this before I finalize how I am installing as I want them to approve of the weight on the counter. Under this install method, I will not build a support platform. Due to the location of the gas inlet, this is preferred as I will not have to cut some of the corner cabinet support as the inlet is very close to the sides and back of the unit. Regardless if it can be supported this way, I have concerns in that the rangetop will be 7/8" above the 36" counter top and the cooking grates are another 7/8" higher. So the actual cooking surface is 37-3/4" off the floor and this seems a little high for my wife. You can see photos of actual rangetops installed in the posting titled "Capital Culinarian owners, post reviews, photos, of your new range!" Trevor posted a rangetop on 1/6/11 that has been mounted on the counter, picture 1 and 3 show the amount the top sits above the counter fairly well. He also posted two pictures on 1/10/11 (Bistro is on the vent hood) that gives a good idea also of the mount on the counter. The 2nd picture shows something I will have as well in that if you look just below the drip pan, you can see a gap between the rangetop and the base cabinet. If I do this install, I will fill with a matching piece of cabinet material or molding. If I go the route of a support platform (the platform will rest on the cabinet supports that run the sides of the inside of the cabinet) the rangetop can be lower (as the rangetop has a second indent even further on the bottom), but still not flush as the base cabinet would need to be significantly modified. So the rangetop would have a slight gap from the counter (similar to pictures of ranges) and would sit approximately 1/4" (not the grates but the stainless top) above the counter or 37-1/8" off the floor to the top of the grates. The disadvantage is the gap (spills could seep through and not as finished looking) on the sides and I would need to cut into the left side cabinet support for the gas inlet as the platform will rest on the cabinet supports and thus I have no clearance for the flexible gas line to connect to the inlet. As I started out, I still do not know what way I am going, but will have a better idea next week. Unfortunately I do not have pictures but may try to post what it looks like sitting on the cabinet this weekend to give you a visual to go along with my explanations.

We are looking at houses today, including the one that we had previously placed an offer on. Oddly enough, they wouldn't counter our offer, but they have already lowered the price 10K. But I have already talked myself out of it for issues such as the easement and the street that it is on. I don't know if this was a self protection, my way of dealing with disappointment, or if these things are still really valid and need to be strongly taken into consideration. I'll see what my reactions are to it this time around! Check out this beauty of a room at the house I loved but my husband didn't. This is a master bedroom with gorgeous wall and ceiling moldings and bay window nook. I can just picture it with a vintage chandelier in place. Thanks so much for sharing about your floors Debbi. "I feel like it's almost bullet proof" - I'm hoping the white oak will be just as durable. My current red oak cabinets have been very tough and have stood up to lots of abuse and neglect which is what made me choose oak again for my new cabinets and floors. :) When I first started the search for HW flooring, I thought all I'd consider was solid. Then I saw some high quality engineered floors and was sold. I think the extra stability from the engineered core of the will make the floors more durable. The floor I'm likely getting also has a 4.5 mm wear layer. It's like a thick slice of wood. It can take up to 3 sandings (or so I'm told) so I hope they'll stand the test of time and last for decades. "Everything is expensive, but when we are buying, we're hoping to only have to do it once." That is how I'm justifying spending the gobs of money going into this reno...! I've been selecting higher quality materials that are (I hope) quite timeless so that this kitchen will only have to be done this one time.
