Advice on updating mid-century modern home.
Comments (12)If you like the fence and want to keep one I would look at installing a horizontal wood fence where the existing fence is located. This would enhance the existing horizontal lines of the house. With the lighter tones of the brick I would paint the dark brown colors a lighter tone. This will reduce the disjointed effect of the dark against the light. If you're interested in seeing some virtual makeovers of your house, check out my website, Creative Visual Concepts. I don't think it will take a lot to improve the look....See MoreUpdating recently purchased mid century modern home exterior?
Comments (25)That's a wonderful first home and looks well maintained - congratulations. From the examples you've been given, I would go with one of the darker greens, or darker brown. My own single story MCM is dark unsweetened chocolate brown - all of it, no brick other than built in planters in front - and in searching back through neighborhood photos, has been this color since built 1955. I have no plans to change it. I like the way it blends into the landscape as though a part of it, and not something just dropped into place from somewhere else ;0) I think blue would have that effect on your home with the treed background. One thing the PO had done here was paint the underside of the soffits warm white. I think if the darker color, it would appear a little dark when inside looking out...you might want to keep that in mind when painting along your parking and basketball hoop area and keep the part the overhangs the brick light colored on the underside. No one will notice from outdoors....See MoreMid Century Modern Soffit Update
Comments (5)We ended up doing smooth vented hardie soffits and fascia. Looks great but the fascia was tricky with the gutter attachment since Hardie says not to face nail. For others knowledge, in the future I would do the hardie soffits again but do LP fascia...See MoreNeed ideas to update outdoor paint on my mid-century modern!
Comments (5)You are asking for a color that pops, right? Your brick appears to have muted red tones so I would try a dark red that complements it. On my screen, I would try Positive Red, Heartthrob, and Heritage Red. Heritage Red doesn't appear to have orange or purple/pink undertones so I'd start there....See MoreGreenDesigns
