Family Room and Office Art
I have moved recently and have purchased new furniture for our new family room and office that are connected and open to each other. We also purchased a new carpet (Tibetan) which was very spontaneous. We had not planned on going with this style carpet, we were going with something plainer and were planning on using abstract art. Big and bold colors. However we fell in love with the carpet we now have. Abstract art does not seem to be working now. Just an FYI on the wall unit you will see, the whale and the lamp have now been removed. I have included a dresser that is on order that is going behind the part of the sofa that goes past the wall. I would love advice on what type of art to purchase. I had not previously thought of black and white photography but it has crossed my mind now. Or sepia. I am thinking white frames. The ceilings are 9'. I want the rooms to look homogeneous. . That is the look I am going for other than the carpet. I could really use some help!! (I added in some photos of the original wall unit that was left with the house. We had it painted and it gives you a better idea of the full wall. I have ordered a floor lamp that is very short and sleek - in dark dark bronze for beside the chair on the left for reading). As you can see we removed all chair rail too.

Comments (7)If it were hung it would look "squished in" and even if it's left leaning I'm afraid it's still too large. What about putting it in that large empty area to the left and doing some smaller things on the right wall (maybe some black and white family photos? Then you can decide on something else for over the fireplace, which could even be a mirror. If you decide to do that, I would choose something quite a bit smaller and more rectangular than the painting. Comments (1)Check out the artist Brit Bass Turner -- her prints used to be on Etsy, but now she has her own shop/website. Her art is abstract, prints are relatively inexpensive, and the colors she uses go with everything in the pics you posted above. Comments (13)There are several designs of faux library wallpaper.I like this one the best, because it is not so dark in hue, overall. If you have suitable wall in your area maybe this would interest you? It offers several coordinating prints on this link too, if you wanted to do a wainscoating on the lower 4 feet of the wall, for instance and than put this up to the ceiling. Hanging a picture such as you have above, on a wallpaper displayed like, this, could be very nice in your area. I have always like the print below, of the Girl with a Book, but if you were to say, display 3 prints, perhaps having one of a child, a parent and a grandparent reading in their own setting, or all outdoors, or all in a setting suitable for their age...you have outdoors above, than maybe a library with a young adult, and than perhaps an office or a porch with a grandparent reading? would be something special in your redecorated room..Enjoy all the ideas that may be shared here ..
