Any suggestions for a 6 inch deep cabinet?
Comments (20)I will have a blank space like that in out butler's pantry (actually 6 inch deep but will be in a shallow blind corner too). I decided to use Ikea stainless cabs in there. Has anyone used just a door, mounted somehow? Or has anyone adjusted the Ikea cabinet boxes to be a custom size? I wonder how hard that would be. I did read about some modifications on Ikeafans but have to look further....See Moresoffit question (again) - can it be 6' deep instead of 12'
Comments (3)I think, since you have to run duct work through part of it anyway, do a soffit. I don't think its dated: soffit vs. no soffit are just options. I think there is a particular style of house and kitchen where the no soffit look is appropriate. But in all honesty (IMO) the "no soffit" look exploded beyond its original stylistic intent because of cheap building practices. The reason is that ceilings generally are not perfectly level, and cabinets should be hung level. So the soffit has to be constructed to compensate between the unlevel ceiling and the level cabinets. Its easier (thus cheaper to the builder) to leave a space there. The first places I saw utilizing this method (Other than some really beautiful grand kitchens where it made design sense) was cheap apartments with rehabbed kitchens and builders houses. Then people decided they liked it, or it was there so they decided they had to decorate the space, and a new thing was born. If you had vaulted ceilings and a large space, decorating it is one thing, but a foot or less is best ignored. And if you are going to ignore it, why not just eliminate it....See MoreHelp! Comments (5)Most double bowl kitchen sinks are @ 33" wide. Fitting in a 36" cabinet nicely or snugged into a 33" or even 30" with sides cut out of cabinet. If your current top mount is 33" W. is that the dimension on top of the sink ? Sounds like it, then underneath it's probably at least 1" smaller. Go by your cabinet width to see what will fit. It shouldn't be a problem. Here is a link that might be useful: granite countertops...See Morehow deep is too deep for cabinets/countertops?
Comments (5)I like a deeper countertop than the standard 24", and I think 27-30" deep is great. I think a countertop that is 34" is too deep to reach toward the back easily. The upper cabinets will have to be deep enough to be accessible over such a deep counter. The upper cabinets will have to be custom, and cost a lot, and I am not sure how you access the back of such a deep upper cabinet. Also, your appliances will have to be pulled out from the wall, and you will need countertop filler behind the appliances to meet the 34" depth. If I were you, I would set up cardboard counters that are 34" deep, and see how it looks and feels....See MoreRelated Professionals
