Need help choosing paint color for front door/pillar
I moved into this house a year ago and finally getting around to changing the color of the front door and pillar. The existing color is a very ugly brown – don’t know what the original owner was thinking!!
Idea is to just paint the door and pillar and be done with it – least amount of $ and effort involved. Not sure what color to go with though. Willing to paint the garage door too, but only if it will be a truly positive change to the overall look of the house. For reference, garage door is dark brown and trim on the house is dark grey/green.
My style is modern, perhaps a little contemporary too, and I like somewhat original but not too flashy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Originally I was going to match my front doors to the outbuilding color of Glidden California Red. Comments (6)I'm no expert but I think you're right, you probably want to keep the garage door matched closely to the brick around it so you don't highlight the garage. I think the bright white on the front door looks nice but maybe to make to stand out more a different color would be fun, but yeah, not red, lol! Comments (23)get one of those vinyl wrap posts. that metal scroll is blah and too thin. look how good this looks! get some cedar shutters to match and it would really stand out what would also look nice with your blue door, is a natural wood post (redwood or cedar). very simple to do. they have the posts already to go, cut to fit, set it into a metal holder on the cement, and coat it w/a uv clear coat so it won't change colors. some like this (size and color) would be perfect. you don't need the curved parts, just the single post and the cap at the top/bottom. plant more yellow flowers, maybe a few blue pots. copper would really pop the blue the door came out beautiful you know you can paint your light, yes? I have one almost identical. 6 years agoI somehow stopped receiving notifications for the last few posted comments but thanks for the input! Here's an update on the colors I've chosen. So the door is an ivory color, trim color is consistent with the rest of the house.
My question now is whether I should paint the immediate trim around the glass beside the front door (side lights..?) the same ivory color? The contrast between the trim and door color is a little more stark than I expected and wonder if this will help the eye transition better. If anyone has any pictures of what this should look like it would be greatly appreciated!
By the way, it's not shown here but I've also painted the house number sign the same ivory color and the numbers match the trim color. I was hoping this would help with the contrast a little.
