What should we do about the shutters
Comments (18)I too would remove the shutters and like someone suggested - frame out the widows w/contrasting trim. I would also suggest ( and I could be all wet here) to move and slightly lower the flag pole to in front of the gutter on the left or to the far right. If you love your eagle - I would mount it below the bay window. Right now the front of that part of the house reminds me of a smiling face. I would put a tallish evergreen on the left corner to soften the corner. Maybe another tall evergreen somewhere else, but I would wait till I put the first on in to see if a 2nd is needed to soften another corner. Maybe add a coupla to your roof on the lower section. I would probably want to add a window or two - but, if you can't then the above ways I suggested maybe a simpler fix....See MoreWhat color should we paint wood paneling in family room ?
Comments (25)NO to painting the fireplace. Look at it. See how deep the mortar joints are? Those joints will always be dark because they are recessed, so you will end up with a checkerboard grid that looks awful. Plus, it will be very tedious to paint those joints. Plus, plus, the joints are simply dust catchers. If you had normal joints, it would be different--you'd have a subtle variation in texture. This will look like a huge mistake. See the difference in this photo. Finally: That paneling is surely applied over wallboard. It probably pops off with little trouble leaving wallboard with a few small holes in it from the short paneling nails. Easy to patch and will look better than painted paneling (which, IMHO, is a very mobile home look)....See MoreFamily room ideas, wood paneling removal and fireplace updates
Comments (2)Um, if you want you can paint the brick white and put a wood shelf around it. You can also put a wood shelf on the fireplace to help brake it up. My neighbors did this and it turned out beautiful! They also added bookshelves around the fireplace....See MoreShould we keep or remove the pony wall with arched opening?
Comments (3)Personally I would keep it. It is attractive, and I dislike my kitchen open to living and dining rooms. Kitchens create a mess when you are cooking, and guests, shouldnt have to look at it, unless of course, they are in the kitchen helping, but, its not a great look, when having a nice dinner in the dining room....See Morepokyhoky
