Need budget friendly ideas for front of house.
Looking for ideas to give my house a facelift. My preferred style is bohemian/farmhouse.
Cattails are growing out of a pond that will be moved to the backyard.
Big trees must stay. overgrowth on side of house has been removed.
Am thinking a narrow pergola over the garage door with climbing hydrangeas on both sides. Have landscaping ideas already - am looking more for ideas about the house itself. Should I paint the brick the same color as the siding? Once the pond is gone, should I extend the porch across the front? If so, how? Or continue the pergola idea across the front of the house. If not, shutters or not? Help!?

Besides the tying in to plumbing, the big design points with carport/patio captures are: - water: the slabs are at grade level, not above, so rotting of sill plates/bottom of siding. - footings: typically none on the perimeter of open slabs (e.g. thickened edge). Comments (9)I agree with Chris’ suggestion. I had to do some quick and cheap fix ups for an appraisal. The area around the utilitarian looking RV shelter over the parking pad made it look out of place and the grass around it just looked patchy and scruffy. My crew and I measured and marked the grassy area then used pegs and string to make a guide to dig around the concrete pad. I used cheap tarps from the hardware or dollar store and cut them to fit a 4 inch depth but you may want it deeper depending if the dogs want to dig. Dig up the area making sure the cuts I into the sod are straight — I used an edger tool (also one of my best investments for keeping things tidy) to cut along the string guide lines. Lay the tarps down and contact a local gravel yard directly because they are usually cheapest. They may be able to deliver but they will also help calculate how much you’ll need. You’ll measure depth x width x length for yardage of gravel but get Chris’ recommendation 3/4” is nice and easy on the pups paws. Once its down you can rake it into the area and it’s going to be awesome until you afford to get pavers or concrete or bricks. 6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoI wouldn't paint the brick, but I would paint out everything that is that rust/maroon color to something a light beige that harmonizes with the brick or mortar. (This includes the garage door and downspout!) That might be enough to bring the house forward 40 years, or you could try a slightly darker color on the siding as well. Then a nice contrasting color for the front door.
That might do more than you think. I don't see a need for a pergola here, but obviously the landscaping needs a complete overhaul -- I think you can keep it more natural and mounded, but contained back into some beds with a clear walkway to the front door.
