I purchased a vanity to use in our bathroom while we were building. Love love having it in the room. We do not have a linen closet in our bathroom either. An armoire could have gone where the vanity is located. We store the extra towels in the (deep) bottom drawer of our double vanity (it's very long, so center section comes out a bit and is 36") , and bed linens are stored in an armoire in the MBR. I would square up the toilet room and have the door open out, or not have a door at all. Someone on GW several years ago posted about her DH passing out inside a toilet room and they could not get the door open - his body was blocking the door. He lived, but... Towel warmer could go on the outside wall there. Or one wall as you're coming in doorway. Guess you could see from MBR then, but it would at least be close to the shower. I guess with as wide a space as you've got, that center support might be useful. Could you build a wall that comes out from the back? But if it's just two doors that meet, and one of them has a bolt that goes down to keep the door from wobbling (sort of like this, only maybe it's more spring-loaded?) http://doorhardwareusa.com/admin/uploads/surface_bolt.jpg then you can just leave that bolt off. If it bothers you that the two doors still shift a little without the bolt, you can use a latch that makes them snug to each other a bit more firmly. Also, FYI--the "ball catch" can go on the TOP of the door, anchoring into the door frame instead of the floor. I would say that if you think that closet is needed, why wouldn't some future buyer? And I'd also say that *you* are unlikely to want to eliminate it. And I'd further say that this small hole in the floor might patch more easily than you think. As for matching--you could do a plain flat door (drywall-type surface) and paint it to match the wall, instead of pretending that it's a real door. Then it's just sort of "a part of the wall that opens." You can even hang a picture on it! I still say--get a carpenter or small-jobs construction person to come in and discuss options with you. Annie, I get what you're saying for sure. My issue with the master is that I can only do a 24" bump out max, and really 18" is more likely. One window is onto the front porch (I know, totally ridiculous) and the other is onto to the driveway. I am doing a bump out in the master bath, I'm adding 18" onto the shower with a transom window above the sight line. If I had the money I'd flip the master and guest rooms but it's not in the budget I think. I'm hoping when I meet with the build team there next week I can get some other ideas from them as well. Luckily, I'm not one who spends much time in the bedroom or bathroom, I tend to get up, get dressed and get out, rarely going back into the master until bedtime or maybe to put up laundry. We will be in the mountains so will spend our time outside, hiking, biking, gardening or fishing in my husband's case. This is the whole first floor, showing the 2 new bump outs. The driveway is on right and the river is about 60 feet to the left running parallel to the deck.

@ Dan Are you currently selling your house, looking to sell it in the near future, or just concerned about resale? Some general comments. I would be hesitant to give up a small bedroom in a house that I was planning on marketing in the near future, however, if I was going to live in a house I would take reasonable efforts to make the house livable for me. If you want a large walk-in closet in a house you plan on staying in for 7-10 years then go for the closet, and just plan it in such a way that conversion back to a bedroom is possible. Often you are only talking about moving a door. There are local conditions that might modify that, areas that might be more attractive to young professionals who would value a nice closet more than a third bedroom, etc., so some local advice would probably be beneficial. ------------------- Contrary to popular belief there is no closet requirement almost anywhere in the U.S. It is possible that some community has put an ordinance in that requires bedrooms to have closets, but there will be an exception procedure for that. I have never heard of that, it is largely just a misconception that gets bandied about a lot. However, there is power in that misconception. You can't be there to correct every realtor who walks into your home about the bedrooms, and so you should find something that makes it obvious how clothes are stored even if that doesn't convey. I just sold a house with no bedroom closets and no wardrobes. The home was built in the late 1800's and was photographed with acceptable wardrobes in the rooms. So there was obvious evidence of what was possible with wardrobes, however, those wardrobes didn't convey with the home and it sold without a problem. ------------- Be aware, I believe there is a requirement of at least seven feet of clear floor space between any two points on opposing walls. So if you do install a closet, or even a permanently mounted wardrobe system, be sure you keep it small enough to allow seven feet. PAX frames are 23" without the door and so if your 9' is actually 8'10" you might screw up even by putting in a PAX system in that small bedroom. Good luck
