Flat weave wool, cotton, kilim, dhurrie and shag rugs questions
Comments (13)I have purchased many flat weave Soumak rugs since building our new home. The thicker wools have been moved to bedrooms, although one guest room has a Soumak. There are several makers, and as someone stated above - some are thicker than others. DD2 just purchased a Surya rug for her bedroom. It is not quite as thick as mine, but fine for her bedroom. I do not know who made our great room rug - my favorite - as the local store I purchased it from removes the tags (can't go online to shop that way and compare prices!). The foyer, dining room and breakfast room rugs are by Kalaty and the guest room rug is by Loloi (tad thinner than Kalaty rugs). As they said above, pet hair does not show as much as regular wool rugs (MBR and another guest room rugs are Karastan - fur magnets) and what is there just doesn't seem to show. I have 2 dogs and 3 cats. Kids are adults now, and I have two grandchildren. DD2 called me 3 days ago asking how to get cat vomit off her new rug (not the "food" kind, but more liquid). She blotted, while I drove over - 10 minutes. She did not have any of the Suyra rug cleaner, but we used Spot Shot and it got everything up - and her rug is gray and white. The painters were at my house, and one came down off the ladder. Thought he was at the floor, but had one more step. He stepped backwards and knocked over his soft drink (styrofoam w/lid). Some spilled and my first thought was crap, but it beaded up and wiped right up. I've bought the better rug pads to go under ours. Ordered DD2 from Amazon dealer. One for an 8x10 was less than $50. I would definitely use a rug pad. The rugs don't walk, but on hardwood, they can slip n slide. I have a central vacuum system and have always used my beater attachments on the rug (set on low pile). I just don't let it eat the edges/fringe. Here is a link that might be useful: My rugs...See MoreListing opinions needed - FSBO w/Flat fee MLS
Comments (36)Photos tell story about a house. Very likely your house is not like that yet your photos loudly convey this property is suffocating, cluttered, lacking of regular maintenance and needs tons of work. Average buyers tend not want to be bothered seeing a dreary property if there are others available. Savvy buyers will treat it as an opportunity to get a bargain as these photos say the seller does not have professional acumen. In essence, FSBO is the owner does the job a realtor usually performs in order to earn the commission. Without realtors' professional knowledge, experience, network and supporting infrastructures, the owner has to work a lot harder to compete with other houses. It would be good to give critical thinking of the comments you received from "fellow realtors" before passing them along. There are many top notch realtors on this forum (NC is one of them), I bet none of them would have this type of silly opinions....See MoreInexpensive area rug to lay flat over WtW carpet - puppy protection
Comments (40)I have not seen a lot of dogs chewing on cords either, (and we have bought some nice chew toys for the puppy too), but I had a friend who had a cat that she could not break of the habit. It ended up electrocuting itself. It was very weird. I know that was an unusual situation but I can't help but think of it sometimes. I am not too concerned about it, but just trying to do an "ounce of prevention" for the simple, low lying fruit. The cord mess looks carpy anyway . . . We have a large walk in shower which we are turning into a puppy playpen for when we have to be gone. We don't plan on leaving the puppy alone for any length of time, (hubs is retired and I'm on sabbatical) but we have it set up just in case. We never use the shower, it's huge but in the back of the house so the water pressure is low and it take forever for the water to get hot. The previous owner of our house was wheelchair bound, so that's why it's there. We have another regular shower tub that we use in the other bathroom. In the winter we turn it into a mini greenhouse and start all our tomatoes in there. We don't have to worry about water spilling on the floor . . . ....See MoreEntry rug suggestions
Comments (118)Saga over LOL I chose a simple grey/ ivory tone striped rug. I think it will work with whatever pattern rig I get for LR, and the colors blend nicely with the entry wall and wallpaper. I also got a sofa table and ottomans, which I think adds a nice touch to the entryway and makes it feel more “put together“ Just have rto figure out walls- mirror/ art art (?) Not much space to work with once agian. should I put a mirror on the left side wall when you enter the house ? it would only refelct rhe closet door. I also have these pretty art pieces , but im not sure where to place them (?) any suggestions appreciated I have these art pieces I could use only the large one one or the 2 piece smaller set. not sure if I should hang one of them to the left entry wall or use a mirror there instead ? should I hang it on the wall next to steps ? Should i hang above tree hall?...See MoreRelated Professionals
