I think the gray with white trim would look nice. I just did my daylight basement with it and guest room.... and now we are thinking of carrying it thru the whole house!

I don't think the carpeted area will look so strange once there's a seating area in front of the fireplace (though if you can find matching flooring so you can replace it without redoing all the floors in the house, having hardwood and using an area rug would give you more flexibility in layout).

How wide is the uncarpeted area to the right? It looks big (12 ft wide or more) in the first pic, but not so wide in the reverse angle.

The trim matches the floor, so it won't hurt to leave it. But it would be nice to do it white, as well as the closet doors and the poor mantel. Any thing you do will be better than the tan everywhere!

The beams look like they nicely tie into the cabinets colorwise. You can spiff up the kitchen with a backsplash when you get around to it, but painting it the grey will be nice. Make sure you test your greys out against the darker wood.

I love the corner windows.

I just painted a room BM Simply White. It looks so much brighter and modern.

In a darker room, SW Creamy is lovely, a warmer white.

Also painted another room Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray, one of my favorite colors.

I can't tell the color of the carpet, but definitely make sure that the grey you pick complements both your sofas and the carpet.

Thank you all for the suggestions! We plan to tackle the carpeted area, just looking for flooring to match the rest of the house. It is right by the front door, but the section was odd and the color was a light beige.

Also, new backsplash and countertops will be added to the kitchen so thanks for pointing that out!

I plant to remove that mantle and paint the brick around the fireplace. Thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely post pictures along the way.
