Let's start with I really love your cabinet color, the SS, and the backsplash! Looks great (except for that spacing problem, but it can be fixed). Great job on 98%! Part 2: This is a cautionary tale for everyone getting ready to order cabinets. You are right, everyone is right, that this is bad design 101. Unfortunately, the kitchen people at HD and Lowe's are a mixed bag. Our guy had years and years of experience in kitchen cabinet placement, interpreting every inch of the drawings, and actual life experience in using a kitchen. The same cannot be said for many 22 year olds doing the job. The particular person who did your "design" needs to move from kitchens to ? cashiering? You may need to bring a "boss" in to help you resolve this. Even HD can be embarrassed. I often hear people here say they have to get the order in by today or tomorrow. No, you don't. All of the details really matter, like this issue. It's perfectly alright to spend a month or more making sure all your measurements are accurate, you like what you've chosen for corners, you have filler where you need it for specific doors to open properly or clear door frames or even to span that odd inch if there is no other possibility. You need to take home the plans and study them in your space (if this is a reno vs a new build). Does it work? Have you forgotten anything? Do you like it? Keep going back and tweeking this and that. It's no skin off the HD designer to keep going back over your plan; he or she is not working on commission. Unless you have experience in this field, there's going to be a learning curve and you need to climb it. If this slows up your GC, well, that happens; plan for it. If your "kitchen designer" is pushing for a closed deal soonest, resist. You need to get it right. Unfortunately, Caddeau, you signed off on this. I signed those same papers and they're pretty hard line. If HD is sufficiently embarrassed, maybe they'll do something. They should, but that doesn't mean they will. Regardless, you should re-order a better sized cab and fix that. Your kitchen is much too lovely to let this stand.

Plume I just got finished reading this thread - my mouth hanging open, - Difficult to even know where to begin. First - God Bless you for your fortitude and relative good humor in this whole debacle - It causes my blood to boil and the severest nausea to say the least. For those of us homeowners that have made it through a large renovation, we are thicker skinned in general and have learned much along the way. That said, our hard earned money goes to products carefully, even lovingly selected, and to the skilled hands (we believe) of those whom we offer a leap of faith and trust them to do diligence in having a dream come to fruition. Unfortunately for you, your dream has turned into a nightmare - sucking time and money as well as causing emotional and psychological distress. Time you will never get back, and the time spent is on something you are outside the realm of your expertise, trying to find solutions to ever mounting problems created by those of whom you entrusted. While this has taken far too many twists and turns along the way I believe all the above posters are well intended and feel your utter frustration with the lack of skill and lack of responsibility from anyone you have entrusted. The difficulty is standing back & seeing the "forest for the trees" - You want your home and life back, you want a quality finished kitchen that you paid hard earned money for - each day presents yet another challenge in which you spin without getting a result. My business experience coupled with a novice interest in building leads me to believe your best interests may be served by cutting out ALL middle men and going to the top. It seems your Wood Mode rep & distributor have no interest in ponying up - the response of holding you hostage at this point is black mail - totally illegal. Wood Mode has built a sizeable company in the past several years, I think Robert Gronlund Chairman & CEO needs to lend an ear to see in real life how is company is being represented in the field. Let's see if Mr. Gronlund is "hands on management" as he purports. You have done a great job at documenting the issues now is the time to carefully craft letters to the powers that be. My rec is to craft letters to: Mr. Gronlund Chairman CEO President: Fred Richetia CFO: John K. Fairis Nat'l Sales Mgr - Frederick Donohue I would send same to all the above - certified mail return receipt as well as faxing to all - Keep the company's feet to the fire - I would rec being as succinct as possible - including $ spent, time-line, issues met - "fixes", permit etc. Let them know you have photos and would forward upon their request. I would follow up w/a phone call campaign to all the letters were addressed to - keeping logs of dates/times/rep you spoke to of all communication. Additionally in the letters I would state that you are bringing this to their attention in hopes for a remedy to your dire situation. The dealer/builder (be certain to name) was trained by Wood mode and if he has done this on your job, you can only imagine what he has done on other Wood Mode jobs as well. You are hopeful for a quick response and remedy as you are no longer willing to be dealing with the dealer/builder who is literally black mailing you at this point. I would ask specifically if they have any other complaints about this builder/dealer. I would also add: While I prefer finding a solution directly with Wood Mode, you have considered seeking other authorities that may be of help. "Probably fine" doesn't cut it in my book when I'm spending thousands of my own hard earned dollars and plan to live in the house for many years. "Probably fine" doesn't gaurantee you anything. I know it's been a loooooon battle for you, but I second the suggestion (as I did the other day) to move on again. LWO said what I said the other day. You may have to spend a little more money to get a quality fabricator who knows what the h-e-double-hockey-sticks he is doing, but it is so worth it. Hang in there!

I am going through the same problem. Our kitchen cabinets were installed over a month ago and the fabricator is still adjusting to make the doors and drawers straight. The cabinets are, what I now understand as full overlay and frameless I believe. They are black and the inconsistent space is very noticeable. The style is completely flush and this discretionary spacing was never discussed. We even had our countertop removed so the cabinet fabricator could make adjustments and better secure outer panels which were shifting. Still working on it but not happy with the spacing problems. I really hope they are able to get them even, fingers crossed.
