Do You Like Art Books? Do You Have or Display "Coffee Table" Book
Comments (32)Outside, I enjoy those books too--- my late FIL went to school with Ferrol Sams and we love his novels. I hadn't realized he wrote essays as well. "When attending art shows, I swear off coffee table books but I am weak." We share that weakness, lol. Seems I am "always" never going to buy another huge book... Beagles, that room is fantastic, and I do see your pile of books peeking out from under that chair to the left :-) I'm with you on the kindle, but every now and then I like to hold a real book. Even though I find myself pushing the edge of the page instead of turning it (hanging head). No screen can reproduce the heft and color of those prints in large books, there is something about a good quality art print that is somehow more convincing than an image on a screen. Sloe gin, over the past decade or so I've seen many people putting lovely shelving in their dining rooms to combine functions or simply bring books into a room that doesn't often see them. I love that look, of a literary dining room! And your basket sounds eminently practical, we use our shagreen boxes and ceramic bowls for the same purpose--- the "stuff" has got to be corralled somehow. I have seen that Circus book, Robo, and the Atomic Ranch book also, they are both marvelous! It's clear that our collective enjoyment of these tomes is at least partly for the esthetic quality of the books themselves in addition to the content. I suppose that's what makes them "useful" decor :-) In some cases they might function purely as decor, as the leather books you've used, tinam. Have you seen the book purses that are so popular in some circles? Kate Spade has or had a few, and there's quite a cottage industry on Etsy making real old books into small handbags. They aren't a tenth big enough for me, but I love looking at them!...See MoreWhat kind of artwork do you have in your kitchen?
Comments (43)I hardly had any wall space left but I managed to buy a 1946 calender and find a space big enough to hang it. It has notations on it about setting eggs; hen, goose and duck. I added the pepper plaster plaques because I found them locally in my price range. Not my first choice but shipping from eBay gets out of hand. After MUCH discussion I decided against any type of backsplash and left it painted white so I use "old" prints and things as my backsplash. Two of the framed pictures on the SW counter were found in my machine shed. One is dated 1933 and I presume the other is likely in that same time frame. The calendar on the NW counter is from a grocery store no longer operating in my home town. Everything is either framed or laminated on its way to a frame. I like to change things every so often so this works for me. I have lots of pictures I've aquired over time. I could change everything every week and be good to go for a year. height=200> height=200> height=200> The advice >height=400> didn't work for me....See MoreArt Art Art! ART WORK that is!
Comments (70)I tried to post and found all my air-dropped files were in a format that would not post. Will have to find time to redo them. But my art is so different -- some "fine" and a lot of contemporary and folk art. This was the only one that worked and I took it down towait, but in case I don't make it back (I am behind on an 8 week course and trying to get caught up) -- this will be my one contribution. This is titled Angels from Above and was painted in response to the attack on 9/11. It hangs in my LR where I have an Americana folk piece, a new still life that may not have found its permanent home and some other contemporary art. It's an eclectic grouping with the link being rich saturated colors. The sofa is midnight velvet and the chairs are natural linen, both treated as neutrals. The background is an inset above the mantle that was painted for another painting when this was in DR. It isn't terrible with the painting, but were painted the walls and now I want to pick a new color for the inset and different painting....See Morecyn427 (z. 7, N. VA)
