How long to wait for ranunculus bare root
Comments (8)in my very limited experience with ranunculus i seem to think its a hot season plant.. [i have no clue why] and if the pot is outdoors.. and your nights are still slipping into the 30's ... its going to take a while for them to start growing with vigor ... and my experience is limited.. because i failed.. the standard 3 times.. and gave up ... but i never tried pots ... in other words .. its not on the 'easy' list.. in my world ... and.. you cant compare apples and oranges.. with the lily ... ken...See MoreHow long do seeds last/storage of seed?
Comments (5)Nope, Carolyn didn't keep her tomato seeds in film cannisters under her bed for 6 Years. LOL Rather, she initially kept her saved seeds in plastic screw cap vials in 100 place boxes with no special storage at all, just ambient temps. When she'd filled 5 of those boxes in the mid-90's she started saving her seeds just in regular so called invitation envelopes and still does. Switching to first person now. I find that with the ambient temps and humidity where I grow my tomatoes does not require special storage conditions. With seeds 5 yo I expect at least 50% germination and often much more. For seeds about 5-10 yo I'd double sow. For over about 10 yo there are a few tricks to use to try to wake them up. My best effort to date has been waking up 22 yo seed but the documented record is waking up 50 yo seed. Being an SSE member I never bought much seed and have built up a huge seed collection without doing that. But the question is about purchased seed in packets. Just seal them tightly when you're through sowing your seed, put the sealed packets in a sealed container in the fridge and that will be fine. For longer term storage you can freeze the seeds but before you do that you need to get the moisture level of the seeds down to about 5-8 % and you can do that with silica gel. Carolyn, who has never thrown out ONE saved seed since 1989 and darn good thing b'c some varieties disappear and some varieties due to improper seed saving morph into something that doesn't represent the variety as the original one. To date I've grown about 2500 different varieties but didn't save seed from all of them, but still, I've got one heck of a lot of saved seed out there in the back room. Comments (20)I do not use a pot in a pot to cook beans in a PC, but I do make sure that they have plenty of water and followthe instructions that came with my PC. If cooking garbanzos in a regular pot, you can add a pinch (or 1/4 tsp) of baking soda to make them get soft quickly. This may make them a bit less nutritious, but they will definitely get soft this way. If you do not have a PC, I highly recommend getting one - it has made my life so much easier, especially since I use it with the induction burner that I got to go with it. I have run out of counter space, however, and have to store my bread machine when I want to use my crock pot, which I do only every few months. I think the crock pot needs to go into the garage, since I use it so seldom. I did use it last night to cook a chicken so that I can finally make tamales today, however. I do like the way the chicken came out, and it cooked while I slept. I've only cooked beans in the crock pot once, and I left those on while I was at work - starting them at lunch, which I always have at home. Lars...See Morehow long do you expect a couch to last?
Comments (26)I am just getting estimates to reupholster a two sofa sectional and two wing chairs. The chairs are 40 odd years old and I had them done about twenty years ago. The sectional I have only has five years but bought it from a consignment store, it is about twenty years old. All pieces are Harden. The odd thing I found is that of five upholstery outfits I contacted, only one actually came and examined the furniture before he would give me an estimate, one, the most expensive for labour only. The others all asked for pictures by email. Of these three gave labour only estimates without knowing if the springs were shot or the joints loose . One gave an estimate using " average priced fabric" what ever that means, but again has no clue about frames condition. The labour only ran from $2661.00 to $6400.00 The one with average fabric was $5,800.00. Finally the one with labour and fabric was $9,500.00. I am leaning towards the latter but have questions for him on fabric as he says he is giving me a 20 percent discount , but I can buy it on line at a much lower price. I wonder of this estimating without inspecting is the norm these days, I do not like this trend. I suggest if you do go the reupholstering route, you do a lot of homework. It is a lot of money, but do believe worth it if the frame is good quality. Good Luck....See Moresocalgal_gw Zone USDA 10b Sunset 24
