Please help choose exterior paint color

I'm starting a new thread since my curb appeal thread seems dead. The garage door was decided and installed - here's the most recent picture. The trim will be white like windows (rain gutters and around the garage) and for the siding we were thinking of gray. But we all know the array of gray choices! Blue gray, green gray, how light or dark, how much blue or green, I can't pick!

I think nothing too dark because we are in a coastal California town it's foggy and cool sometimes and hot and sunny sometimes - we don't want too much solar gain.

I'm lost in the fan deck, please help me with a starting point!

That's a nice color, similar the wedgewood gray which we have in our bedroom. I can't find any images of it used for exterior though.

There is no way of knowing how a color will look on your house by seeing someone elses you have tested both now you need to decide . Post your picture in a comment wait until it is no longer grayed then submit but really there is no way to know and the picture above shows nothing to guage the color by. LFG to me has no blue undertones if that helps.

I like Oyster Bay. I would personal pick one of the colors that is 2nd or 3rd on the card. Can you eliminate 2 or 3 cards now? That will help narrow down your choices.

Thanks - third color down seems right in the bright sunlight. I've eliminated some but still lots of choices - it's hard to "see" the color with the roof, and painters will only paint 2 test colors for me.

You can get your own samples & test them. What is the color of your roof? It might help to just make a sample board of the different elements.

I would go with white siding. There are lovely all white houses. I have some pinned but can't get to them at the moment.

Boopadaboo, I really don't think white will work for our house and it gets dusty and dirty so fast here.

The roof is a gray the photo represents it well.

Mark-Rachel, I would but I am in charge of an adventurous 13 month old 24/7 and do not have a car right now, so the simplest sounding tasks such as buying and applying sample paint are not possible for me to accomplish.

someone had posted a nice set of combos but I don't see it now, was it deleted? I was going to try out a painting software if I can get a few minutes to do it without our toddler getting into something...

Since you've got another post I'll give my suggestions again. Maybe a photoshop guru can help.

These are all Sherwin Williams colors. First is body color and second is trim. Third is door color. I think alot of these could work with a plum door like SW Raisin or a deep blue like SW Maritime or Naval or orange.

SW Oyster Bay/ Greek Villa

SW Unusual Gray/ Reserved White/ Waterloo on door

SW Acacia Haze/ Spare White

SW Jade Dragon/ Aged White

SW Coastal Plain/ Modern White/Copen Blue on door (light blue)

SW Illusive Green/ Reserved White

SW Mineral Deposit/Eider White

Oh I like the idea of the plum color door. Thanks for the color suggestions - I'll see if I can get time on the computer to mock them up!

So I am reading some advice that says paint colors look brighter and lighter (obviously I guess) used on the exterior - so for example a subtle looking blue gray may end up looking baby blue. Any advice on avoiding that problem?

I know we chose sea sea salt for our kitchen/dining area that faces west with lots of sun and it looks very minty to me - which is ok but not what I'd planned on. I definitely don't want to end up with a mint or baby blue house!

Also what sheen is recommended - flat?
