Flooring Design Dilemma Kitchens

Help choose a good floor to match the cabinet

We have this honey maple cabinet (slightly more yellow than the one in the picture) with black granite countertop, and a beige color wall.

I'm struggling to find a matching engineered hardwood floor for the kitchen, the whole living and dining area as they are all open and connected to each other.

It's a kinda small townhouse, so a dark floor is probably not a good idea. I also don't like those red color floors. I'm thinking of the trending wide plank white oak flooring, but having a hard time to find one with a smoother pattern....

Could anyone give me some suggestion or example pictures?

If your cabinets look like the ones shown I would go with a floor like the one shown. Lovely!

Look at floors with honey maple cabinets in the photo section for ideas. I like a lighter version of maple like this:

Soony, As you look in the picture, you will see glass block running all along the back counter area. That is to the outside, allowing bright sun to shine through during the day. If you have a wall that you could actually do that with, and you will have to contact the builder and show him that picture, then I would say that wouldn't be too dark at all. But, if you aren't willing to put the extra money out to have all that glass block installed, (and if you look closely, the glass runs all the length of the room actually, and then glass door at the end of the room also, probably allows additional light in), then I would think twice about the black on black for your kitchen in that picture.

granted it is hard to match white....but i would stay just one pigment saturation level away from light. In other words you can tilt toward taupe, beige, gray but stay light in the intensity. There is a lot of dark with floors...the ceilings are not high,even with skylight...and you have plentiful amt of upper cabinets. keep the backsplash light...does not have to be boring,but I would lean to more light tonality. Have you thought of two themes?.....that secondary area left of fridge keeps calling out as in placing decorative inserts or pencil strip..something like that [small and subtle]...if the work area perimeter was just basic subway field tile. [Re white:Don't assume you can't find the right white-can be nice too if you are ruthless-your white theme really works so far]

As for paint color - you really want to have samples of the floor you will be going with in order to best select actual paint. In theory, you could have the cabinets match the adjacent wall color or go with a whiter shade of the wall color. You do not want to select a 'yellow' or 'pink' white as the wall color is very greenish griege so stick with that tone.

@houssaon, Is the floor maple or white oak? Either way, I like your recommendation of using a lighter natural color floor like maple or white oak.

You can pick a wood like hickory. It has a dozen different "wood tones" in it with an overall appearance of "gold". The variation in hickory can help the wood tones in the cabinets work with one of the 15 different coloured planks. Chances are high that ONE of the colours in Hickory will work with your cabinet colour.

The other bonus will be the dark walnut tones in the hickory will help your dark counter top fit it.

Personally, I feel that a white/off-white floor needs something white to work with. That is often the counter top...but you have a black counter top which makes this awkward. Even a well paid designer would have a hard time finding a white floor that would fit with your situation.

I would suggest an out-side-the-box option: tumbled limestone/travertine looking porcelain tile (or vinyl tile). The limestone looking products often have a light gold/cream colour which can work very well with gold wood cabinets. The travertine looking products can also have gold/orange tones to them that will work well with cabinets that run a bit more orange.

I would look at how long you plan on having the cabinets and the counter top. Those two things will dictate your floor choice in the kitchen until you change out one or both of them. Have a look at your 7 year renovation time line and see where you will end up.
