Do you have halogen sconces above your vanity and toilet?
Comments (0)We're finalizing renovation plans for our 5' x 9' hall bath, and I'd like feedback on my choice of light fixtures. I'm thinking of using three of these 150-watt halogen sconces âÂ" spec'ed by the manufacturer (Condor Lighting) as down lights âÂ" above the new vanity and toilet: Specs: ààSatin glass bottom diffuser. ààOne 150 watt, 120 volt, T3Short, RSC halogen lamp. ààGeneral downward light distribution. ààADA compliant. àà9.25"W x 4"H x 3.25" projection. ààDimmers: Incandescent The sconces will probably be installed just below the 7' level below the 8' ceiling, with roughly 24" between fixture center lines. This leaves roughly 15" of wall space between the fixture edges. The sconces will need to provide the primary nighttime lighting for the vanity and toilet area. (I was going to say "task lighting", but that term didn't sound right WRT the toilet!) The bathroom is 5' wide as you enter it, with a shower that spans the "full" 5 feet at the end of the room. The shower will have it's own lighting on separate switch. So the three sconces only need to light the 6' long wall behind the vanity and toilet (to your left as you enter the room). BTW, the room no longer has a window, so we added a skylight and an exhaust fan years ago. Lighting is not an issue in this room when the sun is up, even during the winter. I'm having difficulty envisioning the lighting plan, because the bathroom currently has the exhaust fan without a light and a single fluorescent tube fixture from HD on above the vanity. To complicate matters, I'm not familiar with halogen lighting except for the two 20-watt halogen lights in my Kobe kitchen range hood. Those lights are very bright, so I would probably use lower wattage bulbs in the bathroom sconces. I'd be grateful for input from the halogen-savvy GWers out there. Thank you in advance! docdom...See MoreDo you have natural fir trim? What wall paint color did you choos
Comments (1)Check out colors that have a "tangerine" kind of base. That is, colors that are very warm, golden orange-ish. since Fir is so warm and golden, they will mesh really well. and those kind of colors are both "modern" and historic for a 100 year old house. avoid the temptation to contrast the warmth of your newly cleaned wood with a cool or dull color - it will totally kill that beautiful glow that old wood has. Now, Choosing yellow-based colors shouldnt eliminate blues or purples. Those can be very warm, too (think peacock blue or wine-like purples). and finally, there is a green that I call orange-green. its lovely. It may be referred to as olive, too, but most olives are too grey. this orange-green is unusual since when you see it, and look at it for a while, you can easily see the orange hue beneeth the green. Ill find a paint sample that is similar and post it here for you....See MoreDo I have room for sconces/pendants?
Comments (4)The problem isn't so much the lack of options for overhead lighting - it's that I really don't like overhead lighting for the tasks I do while looking in my vanity mirror (eyebrow plucking, makeup application, etc.). Overhead lights cast shadows in all the wrong places. I haven't looked at the options recently, though - perhaps I can find a style that will cast give off more light toward the sides rather than in the center (as my current fixture does)....See MoreFraming: Where do you have your wall art framed?
Comments (20)Thank you for sharing what has worked for you! I used to buy frames from a local art supply store and frame myself, but sadly they closed. While I am particular about how my art is framed, I'm also well aware they are worth nothing so it's not like I'm framing a masterpiece or valuable work of art. I figured a custom frame shop was going to be way too expensive for my work, but maybe I should inquire and see what kind of cost it would actually be. I can think of one local shop that does custom framing that I could check out. I figured Michael's was an affordable choice, but honestly, it's not cheap either. Thank you @Feathers11 for the Frame Destination recommendation. There were a few other online options I was looking at, but I hadn't run across Frame Destination. I will definitely check them out. @jojoco I will be brave and share one of the drawings that I had famed. It's not hung up yet, just setting on the floor for the photo. Sorry about the glare on the glass....See MoreRelated Professionals
