Dragon Fruit Tree: How do I keep it vertical and compact? (pic)

Hi There,

I have a small Dragon Fruit tree, I know it is too soon to start this conversation but I am trying to plan ahead in terms of set up.

From the picture, it looks like maybe a few cuttings were harvested from the mother plant and arranged/secured around a pole for support.

This exactly the shape I am going for and I would like to hear from you Dragon Fruit experts/growers. I am not looking for the a big complicated structure because it is growing indoors and I personally don't really like the wiry look indoors.

Can this cactus "bonsai" or stay small?

Can I keep trimming long, mature segments and pot them near the mother plant to achieve this look?

I've seen so many pictures online of mini DF trees growing bountifully in containers but I can't seem to find any information anywhere.

Thank you for your help!
