Should I add shutters to all the windows in the front of the house?
Comments (11)Sounds like everyone would take the shutters off. We really like the charm that shutters create. We also want a white painted house. If we take off all the shutters the house would look white and boring? You can't see the roof because the house is on a slope so there won't even be a contrast with the roof. The house was built in the 1930's and originally had shutters on it. I think the original owners put new larger windows in above the garage and thus were left with little room to have shutters on both sides. I'm trying to also envision something over the main doorway but I'm not sure how to integrate it as there is a stairway to the landing and a porch. How would it integrate into our low roof line? Any ideas?...See MoreFront of house spruce up
Comments (6)Just came across your project. Not much space under roof. Had a crazy idea for you.Tie in some of the lost garden area. This means rip up all the sod in the semi circle. Make a smaller semicircle attached to the cement of the porch, using such things as paver blocks set in small pebbles.Bring out your chairs with a thrifter table conversation height.Like a red wagon planted with annuals. Now landscape between entry walk and new patio. Maybe. Box woods, azaelia. paint the posts a light color, plant a clematis on the post furthest from new patio to balance. Paint shutters and front door a new color that is not dark brown...too much brown due to roof mass. Go to paint store ,get many colors on one strip to get ideas or use their idea books..collect from HD,L,SW, Pratt&Lambert. Hope this helps....See MoreHow Would You "Pretty Up" this House Front?
Comments (20)The windows need help - wider trim as Yayagal suggests and muntins bars attached to all the windows. I think the second floor windows are too close together to add shutters without making them appear even closer together. I would add a pretty, not too tall tree on the left to fill in the empty space around that tiny window. Or maybe put an arbor on that side of the house at the same height as the porch roof. Maybe someone her can mock up some of these suggestions for you....See MoreHELP- freshening up the front of my house?
