Definitely tension rods. Did you mean Command hooks? TR's are extremely easy to put up and take down. She can change out curtains in a heart beat if she finds others she likes better. Just make sure there is an inside wall next to the window for the rods to hook on.

Are the windows 6' x 6'? If so, I would also recommend either getting a pretty curtain to block out light in case sleep is deeply needed, or put some plain mini blinds on first, then the tension rod/curtain over them.

Fun! I had all boys. No fun for me except driving to their college town to stock their fridge and cabinets with tons of food when they were in class, then leave before they got home. They loved it!

I was picturing something much like robo shared.. a great piece of fabric, a tapestry (anthro and uo both have a wide selection) or even a sheet!

I love the one robo shared enough that I'd consider scarves stitched together!

PS, I see a lot of the dorm rooms online have strings of little white lights and I remember this being a very popular feature even back in my day. It's nice to be able to turn off the overhead light and have some ambient lighting.

for a preppier or more romantic room I love the look of this tie shade but let's be honest, would it ever look as good as the first time it was carefully arranged?

Robo, yes.. the little firefly lights are very popular. Every holiday/birthday etc my niece asks for another set (I think I've bought 6 of them so far.. I think she must be wearing them!)

If you add the little lights I highly recommend an remote for them. My daughter loves the soft glow and being able to control them from her bed.

This is a bit OTT, and was done by an ID friend of mine for her DD's dorm room last year. The mini blinds were already there I think. You could do the tie-backs on a tension rod and a valance of some sort though.

In the load and unload of three co-eds NEVER have I seen a dorm room even close to the one above. When we have planned for window treatments the plans have consistently been thwarted by air conditioner or fans or or or. Let us know what is actually put up and remains past the first week.

Outside: I am in awe of this dorm room! Look at that lamp! I had boys. Sigh.

Well, I know it stayed up and was used all last year because she sold the whole shebang at the end of the school year. Too bad we didn't need it yet for our DGD. Her daughter moved into an off campus apartment this year.

I am not good with the "mechanics" of this re:easy to put up/take down...but with the navy-pink color scheme all I could see was a darling, squared off roman shade (not a foofy one, lol) piped in navy with a hot pink monogram when unrolled. But I'm Southern, and we pretty much monogram anything that doesn't move.:) If monogram is a no-go..,I'd still do something tailored and preppy. Mtn, Pinterest has dozens of posts about dorm room decor and it is not at all like when we were at school!. Lots of ideas for windows.. My daughter's room has mini-blinds. We bought a tension rod and hung curtains.

LOlL, Nini, on the monogram. I was thinking Roman shade too, which would go with her bedding and such, but otoh Roman shades require a degree of precision to look good, that I dont think i will get out of a tension rod.

She has a shade, so I think this is mostly about decor. I am going to do mroe reconnaissance on what is there now in re hardware...

When I was in the dorm, I bought flat sheets with a border on the hem and just slid them onto a tension rod. They looked nice.

Maybe a lattice print in white and navy?

Not sure if we are talking about a college dorm room or a boarding school dorm room. From my experience, boarding schools will not let you have any plug in Christmas type lights. They view them as fire hazard. I'm pretty sure my daughters college had the same policy. (On a sidenote, if you so much as had a lighter lit a candle at my sons boarding school, it was grounds for being kicked out.)

Jo, my kid's college doesn't allow any curtains in the dorms, not even a shower curtain to hide the closet mess. I think they've had issues with fire because most of the dorm-furnishing rules are safety-oriented. There are curtains already at the windows, but they seem to be fire-retardant. There are even random inspections by the town fire department!
