You havw a great entrance! While I like the chair, I think it should be replaced with a bench or another chair that would work better for putting on & taking off shoes. Also, I would possibly add a larger rug or runner. It looks like you have a coat closet, otherwise, I would suggest a cabinet of sorts for keys, shoes, etc.

Looks like you have room for a couple of chairs or a bench as suggested - and I always love a sitting area in the foyer where there is room - great for putting on/taking off shoes/boots. The chair you have now looks like a lounging chair, and people don't typically lounge in a foyer. Great foyer, by the way! (I think a bench would be great with that tile!)

The room calls for antiques. Instead of the bamboo table, I would find a large antique secretary whose pediment nearly touches the ceiling, one that shows a lot of history to it from the early 1900's. That could be a place for keys, outgoing mail, etc. Change the light fixture to fit the style of the home.

In this case, the painting would need to be replaced by a large plant in the corner, or something tall. As others have said, the bench idea is great, maybe find an antique bench. By placing a rug in there that isn't overly large, it will make the room seem a little smaller, which would be good. Look on Houzz for the light fixture and rug and you'll find something that fits and is affordable.

The door and floor are both dark elements. I'd go with lighter paint on the walls. Move the half-round mat outside, and get a large rug for the space. Good luck!

I would find a round o put under the chandelier, and a large flower arrangement or intersting glass bowl. Agree lighter wall color would be a great help. Then complimentary chairs with table in between. This may even be a room where one would want to relax and read.

I'm learning more towards the foot stool and rug not seeming to fit, but that's just my opinion if you like it keep it! :)

A large round table (especially one with a pedestal base - the sort your parents got rid of when your grandparents sold the house) should solve the problem.

Maybe a large runner and something like this below? I haven't mastered the art of photoshop yet, but it should help with visualization :)

I like the rug size and shape, although the color is hard to see with the poor lighting. Maybe you could take a picture with the door open, during the day?

The rest of the furniture is not right. It looks squashed in that space. And the chair doesn't "make sense" in that space. A "comfy chair" in that space is just odd.

The art you have is, again, squashed in too small a space.

How about putting your hall table arrangement in the far space, and a bench closer to the door where the table is now? That would feel like a more useful arrangement.

I was trying to use things we already have. I do understand that. If you're wishing to use what you have, you've made a significant improvement. I think the little fuzzy table might be a bit much, as well as the foot stool. Most people want a foyer to feel welcoming, but not like a den or sitting area... a place to sit and put shoes or boots on is fine, but I think a table, light beside the chair, and foot stool a bit much? The last rug is a vast improvement over the first, and I like it just fine!

Thus far, you've created an entryway people can enter into comfortably and catch a moment, continuing on into the house without an obstacle and without feeling as if they are moving from one 'living area' into another (without the fuzzy table, lamp, and footstool).

I can't see the artwork where you've got your table and sunflowers. Are the sunflowers meant to bring out a pop of color from that and/or the artwork behind the chair?

Since you are trying options with the things you already have I would suggest moving the table and art from the left over to the wall where you currently have the floral painting...and then move the floral art over to where the table used to be. You might then want to consider a bench under the floral painting....or you could try the chair on an angle there but think it might be too big. Please send photos.

That is certainly a LARGE entry hall. Thinking along the ranch house or country house theme, the modern chair and stool is gone and now the bamboo table has to go. I would put a large square, round or rectangular rug in a light-to- medium color (whatever you find that you really like) in the room because the floor is so dark. Then add a casual or country style round or square table under the light fixture with a centerpiece of some sort (a large wood or stone bowl, an interesting antique item, something unusual). You have room for a couple of nice chairs in one corner for not-quite-out-the-door conversations. Add a small table between the chairs. Where you live and your seasonal weather will suggest other options...an old wine barrel or other container for umbrellas, a hall tree for hats and wet coats, a boot mat for snowy boots, a basket for sandy flip flops. Add light-toned art with subjects you enjoy: landscape, seascape, mountain lake, beach scene, rural scene, barns, cattle or horses. Add an additional light fixture or brighter bulbs if you need more light in the entry.

If you can put the artwork in another room that would help - as it is clashing with everything in the foyer.

I like the size and colors of the rug esmaili posted. As others are saying, it should be less of a sitting area and more of a spot for putting on shoes; last long goodbyes...

White leather bench in a nice cream or white that matches your trim and echoes the grout on that gorgeous floor! With your modern fixture/art I think you could do something like this for a rug too and still keep your wood table. Put a tall, narrow plant in the corner next to the bench.
