Baby shower etiquette question
Comments (52)"illegitimate"? You have GOT to be kidding me, right? Tell me there aren't people out there who still believe this. Hopefully, they're old enough to die soon before they pass that myth along. My granddaughter was not born from a marriage. Sadly, the parents did marry later, which was the dumbest thing I've seen happen since....., since, since, I'll get political. She will grow up to save us all from cancer, altzheimers, or toenail fungus. She's the best, however she got here and a blessing from God. Sorry, OT. For the original topic: If my best friend from work excluded me from the baby/wedding shower because I didn't "know" the kid, I'd be relieved. I see that as a grab for gifts. I would be more inclined for a baby, after the fact, wrap a bunch of Baby Wipes and diapers for when she has the baby, or after the wedding, a bottle of vodka....See MorePICS-Turquoise Nursery Progress! Comments (32)Baby girl arrived 2 days before her due date on 8/31; we're both doing great :) Here are some progress pics... it is not done, but we're getting there. Any thoughts? We are doing newborn pics on Tuesday and I plan on hanging them to the left of the glider (glider is hard to see in the pic- basically to the left of the lamp)... I think I'll do black and whites in black frames w/ white matting. Picked up this vinyl chandelier wall decal from Target for $10. I love it!!! It even has little rhinestones.... Mirror from HomeGoods... I *really* want to paint the frame a glossy pink.... but am unsure how. Thoughts? (I promise the mirror is centered... not sure why it looks so off in the pic.) Also- the little wall hanging... it matches the room, was only $12, but I don't know where it should go. Maybe back to the store? lol I also need to put some "knick-nacks" on top of the dresser....? My mom DIY'd the letter "C" out of buttons... I love it! I'm not totally happy with the placement of the "art" on this wall. Something needs to be adjusted.... WDYT? Anyway, I'm very pleased with how it's coming along. Any thoughts? Thanks so much! :)...See MoreShort progress update-Old Sub in its new home
Comments (27)Okay, more options than I was thinking really. Should have known GW would come through with ideas! So, here are the top contenders as of now (keeping in mind that this fridge can't be a 'clown' since I have two already, not counting DH, haha) In no particular order: 1.copper of some sort: sheets a la Angie DIY, or ceiling panel material 2. cork 3. chalkboard paint (considering cork on the freezer side and chalkboard paint on the fridge side tinted to match the cork side. I do like to hang some stuff and the g-kids would have fun drawing on the chalk side) 4. veneering the existing panels in white oak to match the cabinets. Good idea, local! These panel are actually raised in the center, so I think I'd have them planed down to more flat-ish, but yeah, that would work to use them as the surface for whatever we do, since we have them and they fit. What am I going to do when this kitchen gets done?!...See More'Registered' for a Baby Shower?
Comments (19)When we got married, one of the places we registered was at Crate & Barrel. Apparently a girlfriend of my DH's friend thought we registered for too much and told me so, passive-aggressively joking that she waited forever for the machine to print out our list! After the wedding when we opened our gift from them, she went out of her way to buy us things NOT on the registry and completely different from what our decor was. Now, if I hadn't heard her snotty comment, knew that she didn't pay for it- DH's friend did, I wouldn't have blinked an eye and been grateful for the gift. But I KNEW what she was doing and was ticked that I had to go and take it all back- probably like she knew I was going to have to do. Sort of as a punishment in her book. That said, I love baby registries because it helps the mom to get everything she needs and doesn't take precious time or energy having to return items or exchange duplicates. Obviously you don't HAVE to buy frivolous diaper warmers if you don't want to and stick to practical items like diapers themselves. :) Now for anything else, with the exception of weddings, I think it's just not necessary. For a new mother, it's a convenience- for other situations it's like being told to buy something for someone when gifts are given from the heart. Blessings, Haley...See MoreFun2BHere
