What a wonderful space for your lucky family! You've done a beautiful job. I think a darker media console would balance out the darker dining wood. I wouldn't add more white cabinets. Do you need storage in the media unit for toys?

thank you! suzyq53, to answer your question, we added a large closet in the corner on the wall with the bar so we could have storage to put away toys. We desperately needed that, though it does limit the option of having a TV on that wall as the wall space gets tighter on that side. I went through a bunch of media console options with my husband last night - from navy blue to asian-inspired to more traditional. What I'm realizing is that he has a stronger preference for more traditional looks for larger pieces and he is more comfortable with me adding pops of color and uniqueness in pillows, wall art, decor that can be more easily changed out. This is our first time decorating a space we designed for ourselves so I get it. Of all the pieces I showed him that I would like, he liked this one the best. It's 68" so it can accommodate a larger TV if we upgrade down the road. It has a little bit of uniqueness in that it brings in iron in the doors. And with the glass, I'm thinking that I can insert pops of color through decor. Do you think that will still look okay?

It seems that there is not a lot of room between the couch and the TV wall, so instead of blocking a lot of floor space with a TV cabinet, I'd mount the TV on the wall. Then put something (or a couple of things) on the floor below it to keep people from bumping into it. Use an articulating mount if you want to adjust side to side.

I'm sold on wall mounting TVs since I did it about a year ago.

thanks for the suggestion! And the windows were definitely a highlight in the design. It has been a pretty substantial transformation overall. I need to gather my "before" pictures, but I'll copy at least one before and after of the same angle so you can have an idea of what I mean. The former kitchen had a poor layout with a peninsula that prevented flow, a laundry closet tucked in the corner, appliances that started failing, and the living room was far from the kitchen given the original 1939 layout. We really wanted to create a family hub of the house where we could have everyone together and cook meals. Everything from the bar cabinet back towards the window is new space that didn't exist before. It has been a dream several years in the making!

The white one could work with your space. And it is all closed which I prefer. I also like the iron trim on the doors, but not sure about glass doors so low with young kids. Also it is only 14" deep, so kind of puny, so it might look too small and top heavy with a large black tv even if it is wall mounted. If you could find something similar that was a little chunkier, it might work better for you.
