HELP!! Was This Backsplash Installed Wrong??
Comments (65)I get a kick out of how close that clock on the stove is to really being centered-- almost as if it really WAS planned! LOL I agree with the others. I think once you get used to it, you won't even notice it. The one big problem has been alleviated, and frankly, it doesn't look bad. A little off topic, but I'm seeing alot of names I haven't seen in a while, and I just wanted to say hi to everyone. One in particular, though (AuntJen), I haven't seen literally in YEARS! Hey lady!! *waving*...See MoreHelp! Need opinions - Marble Backsplash cut wrong
Comments (8)mwrede: Did you make a decision and call them back the next day? I really hope not--it's too stressful to be rushed thinking this through! Let me first say that I've never done a remodel, and I tend to overthink things, even after I've made my decision. This is your personal space; it should look as close to your vision as possible. Your idea for the backsplash is better than their's--ditch the side pieces. Splashback isn't so great that they are needed. They really seem to me to be a waste of marble and $$. I wouldn't think mirrors all the way down would be the best look. The round mirrors will probably be too small for the large vanity, but I like the idea of mixing a round mirror over the shorter vanity and a rectangular over the longer one, but not splitting the longer into 3 pieces--too choppy, not as pleasing visually. (I don't know why, but picturing mirror/sconce/mirror/sconce/mirror makes me think of an old Italian style, maybe in a 70s Vegas hotel.) The photos show a sleeker, calmer bath taking shape--all those elements on the wall don't really fit that. (Oh, and yes--you must get some money cut off the bill. That's a given!)...See MoreVote For (or veto) Backsplash Choices! I need some help, please!
Comments (10)Hi Julieh- I completely understand your dilema--I have been having trouble finding just the right backsplash for about 8 months now, too! Today I was in Home Depot and was looking at tiles (again-- they keep bringing in new things!)and I saw something that might work for you, since you are looking for a "warm" but not beige marble. They had some very beautiful 2 x 2 " White Grecian" marble (on 12 x 12 sheets)--It was much "warmer" in tone than Carrera. There was lots of beautiful, subtle gold and brown veining in it as well as a little bit of grey. It was very soft, and not very busy. Of course, each shipment of "White Grecian" might be slightly different. At least with the big box stores, however, you can kind of pick through them and get the lot with just the right shading or variation. I'm not sure where you live, as I'm sure that their in-stock selection might vary by region. I am in Maryland. That stone is supplied by MS International, --just in case you have one of their granite and stone wwarehouses near you. You can order it in various sizes and styles at HD's online site. I agree that the carrera and beige botticino is not working with the walls and countertop. By the way--have you noticed that Home Depot is carrying lots of Jeffrey Court (high end supplier) mosaics in stock now? So much for people who say that Home Depot tiles are not good quality! HTH. Comments (4)Hi! Thank you for your replies. I will definitely stay with the diagonal now. ngng: Your kitchen looks so lovely! I want wood cabinets in the next house. Mine were an ugly, grainy, weird oak so I painted them some years ago and don't have it in me to redo them again since we plan to move in a couple of years. remodelfla: My floor plan is not an open one. The kitchen/breakfast area is separate from the family room. However, I like way the bronze Fleur de lis picks up the bronze looking flecks in the granite. I thought about smaller squares of the granite used as an accent but wanted something a little different. It's so hard to only do a bit of updating! I start to get carried away as so much needs to be done, but I really don't want to invest anything (time or money) since we aren't staying here. But it's so outdated and yucky!! We rented this house before we bought it 15 years ago and only bought because I was having a baby when the owners put it up for sale and didn't want to face a move after only just moving in a year prior! I never really liked the layout of the kitchen or the floor plan of the house! And here I am 15 years later! Time flies! Thanks for your suggestions! It has helped me!...See Morevillage tiles
